Tangaroa

Taking their name from a Polynesian sea-god, Tangaroa are a truly unique hybrid of experimental extreme metal and progressive grind. An abhorrent amalgamation of virtuoso technical abilities and incendiary metal riffs that combine a wealth of styles from black metal, grindcore, hardcore and jazz, and push back the boundaries and concepts of song structures, offering a defiant middle finger response to the current wave of tech-metal pretenders to the throne.

"Drumming that keeps a solid and often unconventional beat, bipolar vocals that scream and growl as hard as they can, disjointed songs in which structures are played with to the extreme, and utterly staggering guitar work"

- Edinburgh Metal Scene

Formed in Leeds in 1998, the band developed a strong live reputation amongst the underground extreme metal scene, becoming known for jaw dropping musicianship and a somewhat oppressive audio assault on the senses. This was further enhanced by two self-released mini CDs; 2001's 'Ever Fucked A Black Metal Whore?' and 2002's self-titled 'Tangaroa' EP.

After a short break Tangaroa return, building on their previous efforts and taking everything ten steps further. With the release of the new 'Day' EP we see their most accomplished and impressive work to date, carving out their own true sound with a chaotic barrage of musical mathematics and debilitating dissonance.

"The off-kilter nature and downright maliciousness of the weird rhythms make Day as enticing as it is confusing. a warped musical head-fuck that's certainly metal but quite unlike any you've heard before"

- 4/5 Kerrang!

Tangaroa's 'Day' EP is available on Anticulture Records from April 2006, supported by a UK and European tour and a video for 'Vietnamese Killing Queens'.
