BIOGRAPHY UEICKAP
The band UEICKAP (pronounced exactly like ‘wake up’) was born in summer 2003 in Catania, Sicily, Italy from the union of Irene Fraccavento (vocals), Marco Garro (keyboards) and Davide Santo (bass); the line-up was completed later in 2003 with the addition of Francesco “Cisko” d’Aleo (drums) and Graziano Manuele (guitars).
The musical background of each member of the band is very wide, from melodic rock to metal, from progressive rock to fusion. The purpose of the band was to create a hybrid style that mixes all the genres, experimenting and looking for the right sounds. The result is in the shape of a modern ‘crossover’ style (a tight ‘wall of sound’) with the addiction of a sweet (but not too much) female voice.
In august 2004 UEICKAP produce their first mini-cd titled “The Picture of Mr.Armchair”, as a result of the studio activity in the first year: three tracks, one of which is presented in an ‘unplugged’ live version, showing how the band likes to vary between different sounds, from metal power to the relaxed, intimate atmosphere of the acoustic dimension.
In march 2005 UEICKAP enter again their studio (UCK Home Studio) to totally self-produce the follow-up full-length, out on Risingworks/SELF in January 2006, “Stereotyped”: 13 tracks showing the progress and maturation of the band in another year, resulting in darker and more powerful songs than on the mini-cd, maintaining the melody and accessibility of modern crossover. The studio activity doesn't stop an intense live activity: on June 10 2005 UEICKAP (with other Catania-based band NONE OF US) support the opening show of LINEA77’s summer tour at Geco (Floridia, SR) presenting three of the new songs included in "Stereotyped", with a full response from the audience.
In 2006, the promotion activity, done by management/booking agency Alkemist Fanatix, continues with a remarkable number of reviews on magazines & webzines, radio and TV broadcasting (to mention one, Fiorello’s “Viva Radio2”, a hugely popular show in Italy); Ueickap music was also chosen for the soundtrack of a DeAgostini collection of DVDs “FlyMania RC” 21st October 2006, Ueickap were selected to open the Catania show of “Jack Daniel’s Live Tour”, a show entirely filmed by popular SAT TV RockTv.
2007 starts with bad news: due to personal and musical disagreements, Cisko has to be replaced. After 2 months auditioning, in march Ueickap announce the new found member: Francesco Susino. With him in the band, a new era starts: Ueickap joins the roster of newly founded Noiz Addiction Records, label and booking-management agency. In May the new line-up debuts in different venues: opening act for all-Star band Rezophonic, the “Noiz Addiction Day1 party” and the presence, as headliners of the metal stage, at the Festa di Mesiano 2007, the biggest university music event of Northern Italy. At the same time, while Stereotyped keeps getting good responses worldwide (‘Noiselesseness (Acoustic)’ is included in the soundtrack of another DeAgostini DVD collection, “Le Grandi Salite Del Ciclismo”), they start again working on the new album. Summer comes with a lot of live performances (the guys really can’t stay still much!), where some new songs are presented. The follower of Stereotyped is to be expected, with a promotional tour, in the spring of 2008. In any case: the best has yet to come…
BIOGRAFIA UEICKAP
I UEICKAP (pronunciato come l’espressione inglese ‘Wake Up’) nascono nell’hinterland catanese nell’estate 2003 dall’idea di Irene Fraccavento (voce), Marco Garro (tastiere) e Davide Santo (basso). La band si stabilizza alla fine del 2003 con l’arrivo di Francesco “Cisko” D’Aleo (batteria) e Graziano Manuele (chitarra).
Il background musicale di ciascun componente del gruppo è molto vario e si estende dal rock melodico, alla fusion per arrivare fino al metal. L’obiettivo è quello di creare uno stile ibrido che misceli tutti questi generi, sperimentando e ricercando i giusti suoni. Il risultato prende forma quindi in una struttura crossover moderna (un compatto e potente ‘muro sonoro’), ‘addolcita’ da una voce femminile melodica – ma non troppo.
Nell’agosto del 2004 i UEICKAP auto-producono il loro primo mini-cd dal titolo “The Picture of Mr.Armchair”, riscuotendo immediatamente il consenso del pubblico. Il lavoro riflette l’attività in studio della band presentando tre brani, uno dei quali anche in una versione ‘unplugged’ dal vivo, a testimoniare come la band voglia spaziare su varie sonorità, dalla potenza dei suoni metal all’atmosfera più rilassata e intima della dimensione acustica.
Nel marzo 2005 i UEICKAP rientrano nel loro studio (UCK Home Studio) per dare vita al full-lenght totalmente auto-prodotto: parliamo di “Stereotyped” il quale contiene 13 tracce che mostrano la maturazione stilistica della band orientata verso sonorità più cupe e potenti rispetto al mini-cd, mantenendo comunque la melodia e l’accessibilità del crossover moderno. Nel frattempo il gruppo continua le performance dal vivo tra le quali quella del 10 giugno 2005 quando i UEICKAP (insieme ai NONE OF US, altra band crossover catanese) aprono la prima tappa del minitour dei Linea 77 al Geco (Floridia – SR) presentando in anteprima 3 dei brani contenuti in “Stereotyped” e ottenendo riscontri positivi dal pubblico presente.
Nel Ottobre 2005 partecipano alla prima rassegna musicale “ ROCK CONTRO LA DROGA” , organizzata dalla provincia di Caltanissetta, vincendo il premio come “ MIGLIORE PERFORMANCE BAND” ed il “PRIMO PREMIO CATEGORIA BRANI INEDITI”.
Dicembre 2005 segna per i UEICKAP il primo video, scegliendo come singolo “Sometimes” con la regia di Sebastiano Greco. L’album uscirà in tutti i negozi italiani il 13 Gennaio 2006 (distribuzione RisingWorks/S.E.L.F. S.p.a.). Dopo l’uscita nazionale comincia la promozione, curata dall’agenzia booking/management Alkemist Fanatix: passaggi in radio nazionali (‘Rock Wave’ e ‘Viva Radio 2’ di Radio2; ‘Radio Panda’) e numerosissime radio internazionali; varie recensioni su webzine e magazine: da febbraio ad aprile la rivista Rock Sound pubblica la recensione con voto 8/10 (febbraio), l’intervista al gruppo (marzo) e il singolo “Sometimes” inserito nella compilation in allegato al numero di aprile (35.000 copie di tiratura nazionale). L’estate 2006 segna l’inizio delle registrazioni per il nuovo album, i UEICKAP si chiudono nuovamente nel loro studio per dar vita a nuovi brani mentre a settembre arrivano due novità: due tracce dell’album “Stereotyped” (‘Noiselessness’ e ‘Sometimes’) vengono inserite come soundtrack nel dvd allegato alla prima uscita di Fly Mania RC (DeAgostini), modellini radio comandati (75.000 copie di tiratura nazionale); sempre dal settembre 2006 i UEICKAP sono ufficialmente distribuiti in Inghilterra dalla UK Division Records.
Nell’ottobre 2006 i Ueickap vengono selezionati per aprire la data di Catania (Scordia – Krossower) del Jack Daniel’s Live Tour, evento ripreso dalle telecamere di RockTV.
Il 2007 inizia nel modo peggiore: a causa di divergenze personali e musicali, Cisko viene sostituito. Dopo due mesi di audizioni, a marzo i Ueickap annunciano il nuovo componente: Francesco Susino. Con il suo ingresso inizia una nuova fase che vede i Ueickap entrare nel roster della neonata etichetta/agenzia di booking-management Noiz Addiction.
Maggio segna il debutto live della nuova formazione con diverse date tra le quali sono da ricordare il “day one party” di Noiz Addiction, l'apertura del concerto dei Rezophonic (12 maggio 2007 al Krossower di Scordia - CT) e la presenza come headliner del palco metal della Festa di Mesiano 2007, grosso evento universitario del Nord-Italia. Contemporaneamente riprendono i lavori per la preparazione del successore di Stereotyped (quest’ultimo continua a mietere consensi, recensito su RockHard di Marzo con 7,5/10). Nel frattempo, ‘Noiselesseness (Acoustic)’ viene inclusa nella soundtrack di un'altra collana di DVD DeAgostini, “Le Grandi Salite Del Ciclismo”. L’estate arriva con numerosi impegni live, nei quali vengono proposti in anteprima alcuni brani del nuovo disco, la cui uscita è prevista, assieme a un tour promozionale, per la primavera 2008. Il meglio deve ancora venire…
