"the sooner Truth Maze breaks national the better"

- Dwight Hobbes, Pulse of the Twin Cities

Truthmaze is one of the originators and premier hip hop artists in Minnesota, beginning in 1983, as a vocal percussionist (beatboxer) known as B-Fresh. He was part of one of the first hip hop recordings from Minnesota to reach national presence as part of the I.R.M. Crew, and has been recording since 1986 with such groups as I.R.O.C., Brown Mark (of Prince and the Revolution), Mixed Breed and The Mighty Micronauts, whose infamous debut album was recently re-released on Rhymesayers Entertainment.

In 1989, he embarked into the genre of spoken word and as excel there as well. He is one of the most dynamic spoken word artists on the scene, with his performance infusing everything from African drumming, jazz, hip hop, to neosoul. He has been a member of a number of bands and collectives, in addition to the ones mentioned above, including Trektah Beam Express, Blak Pham, Moveable Feast and the Dijonettes. He sings, plays percussions, rhymes, beatboxes, and has been compared to Gil Scott Heron, Saul Williams, KRS One, the Last Poets, among others.

Recently hosted the Cheap Cologne CD release party, The Hook Up New Years Eve Party and the Nubia's Rhythm! Respect! event, and can be seen performing at various venues in the Twin Cities. In February, he will be traveling to London for performances, and the European release of his upcoming solo debut CD, Expansion and Contraction (Psoems 1:1). "Hip Hop's true prophets"

- Star Tribune (on Truthmaze + Unknown Prophets)

"Truth Maze, he's kind of the Afrika Bambaataa of Minneapolis."

- Peyton

" Whats good man. nice show the other night, some of the more real shit I've heard lately. Much appreatiation! thanx for bringin this hip hop back down to earth.Peace!"

- ~Luca$h~1

"I'm hip-hop all day. But I'm not trying to be what the fuck people want. I don't have time for that.

- Truthmaze

"an underground icon since the late 80s"

- Dwight Hobbes, Pulse of the Twin Cities

"As a child, I got to talk to Truth Maze maybe five or six times face up. This was way before Atmosphere, way before the Micranots. It was like being in the presence of a god. He had such an energy to him. He always smiled. Anything that he said to me, I decreed as law, and I would take back to my friends, Mark and Adam, and we would live that way."

- Slug (of Atmosphere)

"If pouring your blood, sweat and soul to music is still a trait people like to hear in hip hop, then give it up for Truth Maze and Unknown Prophets."

- Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune

"Dubbed "the Afrika Bambaataa of Minneapolis," Truthmaze is one of the few MCs who could credibly rap, "North Side full-throttle/Mister Influence, I taught Aristotle," as he spits on his new, long-awaited solo debut, Expansions + Contractions (Psoems 1:1) (Tru Ruts/Speakeasy Records). The album is a true event, combining the full range of his past live music and electro into a carnival of poetry, hard funk, and raw rap, with guests ranging from multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Ylvisaker to fellow ex-Micranot I Self Devine."

- Peter Scholtes, City Pages

"The ominous North Side Blues gives you a chill as Truth lays out an urban landscape of blood, smoke and stress."

- Dwight Hobbes, Pulse of the Twin Cities

"Twin Cities veterans Unknown Prophets and Truth Maze get better with age. And a little rage."

- Star Tribune

"The last thing I wanted to do was rein myself in."

- Truthmaze

"He has a hip hop pedigree that goes back to his days with local pioneers the Micranots and the IRM crew. Since then, he has bounded from acid-jazz (with Moveable Feast) to Afrofunk (the Dijonettes) to his ongoing spoken-word experimentations."

- Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune

A lot of people really owe the Micranots a lot of love. We used to fuck this city up. Literally. Nobody was rocking mics like us. we would come in and wreck shop.

- Truthmaze

"I'm being real honest with you. I mean, the best way I can put it is, I've been doing a lot of different things because all these different genres is just a part of me. I decided a long time ago that I'm not going to be stuck with making what people want to call hip-hop."

- Truthmaze

It's not just good for us to find that old record that we heard other DJ's play, or want to sample what we think is hot, but it's to remember that all the music we listen to is born out of a very powerful source: creativity.
