Tristes Tigres formed in Stockholm 2002 by Patrik Bolling Ferrel, Miguel Sida and Jhon Paul Solarte. The members were of mixed backgrounds including mexican, chilean, swedish and venezuelan. After serving a couple of years as a soundcrew and spreading reggaeton to many cities across Europe, Jhon-Paul left the group to Patrik and Miguel who started writing songs and blending in other genres. Tristes Tigres was one of the first groups to start using the more uptempo soca-influenced beats mixed with the attitude of reggaeton. The 2006 underground hitsong "Poco A Poco" featured old school reggaetonveteran Sir Speedy, a way by Tristes Tigres to show their respect to the pioneers of the genre. Reggaeton was now slowly transforming into an urban genre not so easily defined as it used to be in its "dem bow" rising days. Other urban genres like house and rnb started to find its way into the minds of the reggaetoneros.

This transatlantic mindset and the multicultural background of the members challenged peoples concept of the genre by changing the classic rhytms. The duo was tragically reduced into a soloproject in 2007 when Patrik Bolling Ferrel was killed, only 31 years old. Singer Miguel Sida continued to release the groups debutalbum "Tropical Depression" on Redline Records in august 8, 2008. After struggling to carry the group by himself, Miguel decided to leave Tristes Tigres to the history in 2009.
