Deep in the basement of Duper Laboratories, Bergen the clock ticks on a cartoon wall while clouds of green gas waft from giant glass flasks filled with golden fish.

Rabbit robots whizz across the floor collecting tiny musical notes blasted from a toy machine gun by a small boy illustration in the corner.

Two enormous smoke-swathed figures in fisherman hats stare at control panels and move in slow motion from dial to dial.

On the table a half-baked Frankenstein with wires attached to its naked pulsating brain - part flamingo, part rabbit, part golden fish - moans in the darkness and leaks luminous fluid as TOY's new album comes to life on the laboratory bench.

It is almost ready to start smashing things up. It will stalk your neighbourhood in 2010.
