AUGUST 2008 update

After starting this myspace in 2006 the reponse has been fantastic and as we head towards the summer of 2008- look we are nearly at 27,000 hits - amazing! also You should now see within the site a number of flash players

Some of these players have some of Tony's original tracks and some of what I consider to be his best remixes and then there is also some cheeky LIVE mixes of the great man in action (THESE WILL BE UPDATED AGAIN SOON for your listening pleasure)

For copyright reason non of these will be made available to download if you wish to support Tony's memory please purchase original recordings such as 'Live in Toyko' & the 'Trade' Compilations and then hopefully some money will end up back with Tony's family (Pls anyone let me know if this is factually incorrect)

Either way this site is here to rejoice in the memory of one of the most pioneering men in House music.

Please send leave messages within the comments area of times you've seen Tony or any thoughts you'd like to share with others.

I was very touched to recieve a personal message from Tony's father - Ray de Vit. Although the message was short and sweet ive been told by a good friend of his he was very touched by everyone's kind words and I think the fact we're up to 10,000 hits and counting shows what he meant to everyone.

What i'd like this site to be is a Central place for everything Tony de Vit related on the internet. So within the page you will see lots of links to loads of interesting sites around the net with TDV articles and just stuff which I think would be of interest to TDV fans.

Story 1

A good friend of Tony's got in touch recently with a quite frankly brilliant story that we just have to share His name is Liam (www.myspace.com/weimaranergeorge) and its goes like this

i was at Alex's ( Tonys best mate) flat after a very long nite out.was about 12 o'clock mid day well i was younger then.can't do it anymore tony turned upand said i have just finished my next record.do you want to see what you think of it??? so he put it onand everyonewell all 3 got up and started dancing.must have been very stange to see . Tony was dancing round the room like a kid :) i never ever saw tony danced.j's don't dance!! this is one of the very happy thoughts i have of Tony and i bet you want to know what the new record was it was "THE DAWN"

Story 2

From 30th May 06



One of the reasons I started this myspace was to keep tony de vit's musical memory alive for all the people who remember his special DJing and music.

This weekend I was very touched to recieve a message from 'Marco' (in my friends below) who is a good friend of Ray de Vit - (Tony's father)

Marco has been v kind in his words and also shown Ray de Vit this myspace. Who I believe was also v touched.

Below is a very special letter written by Ray de Vit about Tony - It is my pleasure to enclose this below.

RIP Tony de Vit



"Remembering Tony" My first recollections of Tony connected to music were many years ago, when he was about two years old. Stereo players had just come out and I acquired a portable version which split into two speakers when you opened the lid. For maximum effect I placed the speakers on the carpet and lay between them with my head on a cushion. Tony would lie on top of me for hours listening to the music. After a while I updated to an HMV cabinet model which was much, much better. I can well remember Tony, aged two and a half, changing the records like an expert. His mom said that was all he did every morning till his lunch was ready. I felt then that his future lay in music. Later in life Tony joined the school band and played a trumpet (don't laugh!). We also employed a piano teacher to give him lessons at home. Although it was classical music, Tony said it was such a big help to him as he progressed with his music career. When he was sixteen, Tony's idol was Marc Bolan of T-Rex. He used to dress like him sometimes, with flared trousers, high-heeled shoes and a little bit of sparkle under his eyes. One amusing incident happened when Tony came down the escalator at Woolworths. He was wearing his 'T-Rex' high-heeled boots and when he went to step off, he fell over! An elderly lady helped Tony up and enquired: "Are you alright my dear?" After Marc Bolan died, I thought it would break Tony's heart. He sobbed for hours. When Tony was still at school, aged about fourteen, I used to race a grasstrack motorbike most weekends during the summer. Tony came with me and he would get a little frustrated because he fancied a ride, but you weren't allowed a racing licence until you were sixteen years old. When that day came I'd bought him his own bike and a new set of racing leathers. I was so proud of him. Somebody said I was like a broody hen clucking around her chicks. Sounds about right! After a few weeks Tony began beating me to the finishing line, so I decided to retire and let him have my bike, which was much more powerful. I then did the 'spannering'. This worked well. In a short time Tony was mixing it with the big boys, his highlight being invited to race in Norway. But his music kept pulling him. In the end Tony had to choose between music or bikes. I'm so glad he chose music. I once asked Tony if he ever got fed up with dashing all over the country at 100mph and playing loud music for hours on end. Tony looked straight at me and said: "Dad, I love it." That is how I'll remember Ant. He was a lovely kid all his life. I will always love him and cherish the memories. This story illustrates how special his music was and the sort of impact his DJ ing had on people



" One of our fondest memories of Tony is when we accompanied him and Andy to New York for Trade at the Sound Factory. When we arrived at the club we were told he was playing in one of the upstairs rooms. All the way through the set he was very careful not to play too hard, only playing tracks that you would expect Malcolm Duffy or Alan Thompson to play. At the end of his set the crowd were screaming for one more, he turned around to me and asked what he should play, and I managed to get him to play "Are We All Ready" - the crowd went mad. He ended up playing for the next hour his usual set. It was at this time that the security came up and told him to finish as the club had closed well over an hour ago! The rest of the club was empty, Tony had successfully emptied the rest of the club into "his room". Which other DJ could ever manage to do that????
