Tom Paul brings his songs of life and love with a fresh, soulful perspective to the New York music scene. A native of Blackwood, New Jersey his childhood was punctuated by music and dance performances, often before audiences numbering the 1000’s, with his family in their Russian Balalaika orchestra. Playing a variety of instruments and inspired by a rich high school music program in Syracuse, NY, Paul cut his musical teeth with local rock bands before venturing off to Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music.

With a BA in Voice and Songwriting and the seeds of his heartfelt, message-driven lyrics he made his way to New York City. While imbibing the ‘sounds of the city’ he was soon signed to a publishing deal with Peer Music Publishing as a staff writer.

Strongly influenced by Southern Rhythm and Blues and the Motown sound, along with a touch of jazz harmony, Paul writes distinctive songs from the heart. With his mixture of rock and soul he ponders issues pertinent to life today as aptly titled Why Can’t We Love One Another? Written in response to the Rodney King beating and the ensuing riots; or Different World which asks:

Will money always dominate the rules of this earth?

Will people ever be taken for exactly who they are?

Can we learn to love One another?

In a Different World?

His passionate delivery and well-seasoned band has been performing at respected music venues in New York City including The Supper Club, Irving Plaza, and the Mercury Lounge. Paul has opened for a number of national acts including Jody Watley and Lisa Stansfield at The Supper Club. His band consists of high-level musicians who perform with many of today’s greats such as Shawn Colvin, Joan Osborne, Natalie Merchant, and The Black Crowes.

With a desire to speak to the heart of his listeners Tom is driven to bring out the truth and human qualities in his songs by everyday life.

As Paul says, "People appreciate the honesty in my music."
