Tim is a Central Kentucky native born and raised in Berea, a small college town about 1 hour South of Lexington. Tim is both a prolific and profound country songwriter, garnering national attention for his unique ability to connect with blue-collar listeners without resorting to tired clichés or trendy gimmicks. He has performed at the prestigious Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Jessie Keith Whitley (son of Keith Whitley and Lorrie Morgan) recently recorded “So You Wanna Be a Redneck?” and “Cowboy Kryptonite”, both co-written by Tim. Tim has written with the likes of southern rock legend Henry Paul of Blackhawk and The Outlaws fame, and Amanda Williams (who co-wrote “Beer Run”, which was recorded as a duet by Garth Brooks.“Leaving it all on the stage.” It sounds simple, but how many times can you recall coming away from a show honestly believing that the act had lived up to that phrase? For Tim Hellard this isn’t a choice – it’s an inevitable result of the passion, experience and professionalism that comes together each and every time he and his band Sugarcane hit the stage. Chock full of veteran experience from both the country and rock worlds, this act puts the pedal to the metal from the very first note and doesn’t take it’s foot off the gas until the tank is bone dry. The goal every night: leave the crowd with the unmistakable feeling that they should have paid $75 a head to witness what they just saw. Songs turn into “epics” and shows become “events.” Audiences are imprinted with a near-religious compulsion to spread the word to both friend and foe alike, and leave with an unquenchable desire to experience the whole spectacle over and over again. Unrivaled musicianship, unequalled stage presence, and unbelievable energy merge into an explosive chemistry between band and audience that transports anyone who participates to that special place we all visit far too infrequently. Comfortable playing in front of crowds from 10-30,000, this self-described “Working man’s working man” lives to convert the masses to his cause. When all is said and done one thing is for certain – this ain’t your grandmama’s country star!

Accomplishments:

In the summer of 2008 Tim submitted the video for “Southernfried” to Great American Country’s “The Next GAC Star”. The clip was played on national television and labeled a “hit song” by Victoria Shaw (co-writer of Garth Brooks’s “The River” and John Michael Montgomery’s “I Love the Way You Love Me”). Said Shaw, “That song is killer and I think if he does some more stuff he could be something. I like the song. Very commercial.” Tim capitalized on this momentum with a week’s worth of amazing shows at the 2008 Kentucky State Fair and then by headlining the 2008 Kentucky Country Jamboree. His MySpace webpage also continues to impress. Over the last two years Tim has received over 131,000 plays of his original material on this -website, making him the 1 most-played unsigned country artist in the state. What’s even more incredible is that this status has been achieved with virtually no mainstream airplay or extensive national touring! In 2005, Tim and his group won the coveted Battle of the Bands at Austin City Saloon in Lexington, KY, and landed a spot at the Red, White and Boom Fourth of July celebration in downtown Lexington. In addition, he has made numerous appearances on local and regional television, and has performed live on Western Beat Entertainment’s “The Billy Block Show” for Nashville’s WKDF 103 FM (also syndicated on Sirius Satellite Radio).

Songwriting ooks and George Jones). He has also participated in writers’ rounds with songwriter/producer Doug Johnson of Curb Records (writer of 2003 CMA, ACM, and NSAI Song of the Year “Three Wooden Crosses”, recorded by Randy Travis), and Kim Williams (writer of multiple 1 hits recorded by Garth Brooks, Reba McIntire, Clay Walker and Joe Diffie). In late 2008, Tim was asked to include his song “Southernfried” on a worldwide release for the Make a Wish Foundation.

Recording:

Tim’s 2005 CD “Little Dreams” was put together with master session steel guitar player Robby Turner (Travis Tritt, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings) of Turner Up Productions. His most recent CD, “Southernfried,” was recorded in 2007. It was produced by Tim and John Northrup in Nashville, TN, and features the incomparable Brent Mason on guitar. Both efforts are currently being shopped in the hopes of landing a major recording contract.
