Don't google 'Tidal District' expecting to read about a geographical area that in some way is impacted by tides, in the hope of being able to throw fantastic metaphors about Tsunamis of talent and floods of emotion. You won't find anything. All you'll get are references to a Dublin quintet, who pretty much sound like nothing you've ever heard before.Formed in 2007, Tidal District are Noel Duplaa, Gary Donald, Grainne Dunne and Charlie Keegan. Already armed with a legacy that includes a top 40 single, a soundtrack to a best selling DVD, headline gigs and the destruction of a helicopter worth millions, TD have already packed a hell of lot in during their short spell as a band. Lead man Noel Duplaa and guitarist Gary Donald have even found time to write and direct, and eventually screen their debut movie 'Another People'. How they have found time to have such perfect hair, I'll never know.Born, most likely not out of frustration or suburban boredom, but more likely from a creative drive and a genuine raw and impressive talent, they have emerged onto the ever shifting Dublin scene with very steady legs. The above speaks for itself. The bustling 'Aces', crashed into the Irish Charts late last year and demonstrated to the public that you can be literate and assured and still have the hits. It also helped that the song had an instant classic sound. Recently enlisting Ciaran Bradshaw (fresh from working with Muse) the band set up camp in Offaly and began work on a body of work which will ultimately result in a number of EP's, singles, and when the world is ready, a debut album. And it will be some debut. As anyone who attended Tidal District's recent headline shows in Crawdaddy will testify (and I do mean testify), the songs have the ability to capture the attention of every demographic. Effortlessly blending the late night swagger of 'The National' with the angular pop of 'Deus', via Warren G, Noel Duplaa's vocals hang satisfyingly high in the air before crashing blissfully onto Gary Donald’s sweeping guitars below. The result is a beautiful mess. And the rhythm section isn't half bad either. They played extensively throughout 2008 notably at Castlepalooza last summer, Hard Working Class Heroes '08 and to a captive club audience at the infamous Dublin Castle in London. Their single 'Don't turn your back on the bear' was released March '09 and has been played extensively on Phantom, Today FM and BBC NI. They went straight back into the process of recording a follow up EP which can be followed on their vlog.
