K. Taylor

If pedigree counted for anything in the music business, Kate Taylor would be golden. Her father is a session musician, her sister comprised one-half of the group Azure Ray, and her brother currently performs with Bright Eyes. But though she possesses her family’s musical prowess in spades, any success this 22-year old has achieved is based solely on her own merits as a singer/songwriter. She was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and got her start there musically by performing with several other area musicians, including members of the band Wild Sweet Orange and, of course, her sister, the formerly referenced Maria Taylor.



Proficient on multiple instruments, including drums, guitar, and piano, Taylor is adept at converting her emotions into melody. Though many artists spend years attempting to distill their ideas into song, for Taylor is seems to come naturally. Her music is unabashedly simple, her voice angelically honest, and her lyrics plaintively introspective. Taylor manages to tackle such conventional subjects as love and loss in a manner that breathes new life into them. Part of her charm is her irresistible personality and her ability to pour herself into her music. If honesty is refreshing, then Taylor’s acoustical ballads are a walk on the beach. When backed by her friends—a motley collection of Birmingham’s best young musicians—Taylor is unstoppable.
