BIO:

In 2004, members from We vs. Death, Kismet, Stellenbosch and Dawn of Awakening, got together to form four-piece The Walt, based on a personal chemistry, geographical convenience and a shared passion for bands like At The Drive In, Medications, Q and not U, 31Knots, Me Without You and many others. This chemistry and passion results in melody and melancholy, which rocks to the beat of the drum. After four years of rehearsing methodically, playing shows in a wide variety of venues, and releasing three promo's, this Utrecht-based band has recently finished working on its long awaited first EP, titled 'Something we did not have'.

PRESS:

Visions: (EP of the month)

“We have to admit - for this 5-Track-Demo we’ve looked beyond our countries borders. But The Walt from Utrecht is simply too good to restrain. So we’ll allow this cross-border traffic and talk a bit about this superb Postrock-Postcore-Mixture, in which the great melodies are cleverly staged, always thundering towards a manic but not hyper-intellectual peak which turns out to be danceable too, like Dartz! Add some sound barrier conquering vocals, which remind us of Cedric Bixler-Zavala. It’s obvious these four gentlemen learned their trade in their previous bands. Also, for a demo ‘Something we did not have’ is remarkably well mixed.”

Live XS: (EP of the month)

“Something we did not have turns out to be - and we include the artwork - a true masterpiece which can go heads up with the better experimental rockbands such as At The Drive-In and mewithoutYou. The Walts succeeds with songs as Zur Biederburg and Happily Ever After in performing dazzling melodies without losing focus of the song. Altough the band clearly thought about every note, they still come of spontaneously and the joy of performing creeps out your stereo. Clearly a promise for the future.”

FRET:

“Rugged and varied drum rhythms, sharp and pacing guitarriffs, maniacal singing and screaming and a thumbing bass. This can’t go wrong. It’s urgent rock which can’t be ignored, played as if the lifes of the bandmembers are depending on it. Stripped down new wave, neatly composed and all that coming together in smashing and organic musical interaction. We highly recommend this EP.”

Oor:

“The EP Something We Did Not Have literally screams for attention. If only it’s for the painfully confronting vocals and the mathematical guitar structures, which are complicated yet very melodical. It’s intense and nervous emo which has been clearly inspired by At The Drive-In, but also gives credit to the wavegenre.”

File under:

“The music you’ll hear is a delicate mix of At The Drive-In (the intensity), The Cure (the vocals) and Dismemberment Plan (the melody and melancholy). This results in five very cool tracks on Something We Did Not Have. Although I am curious what these four guys did not have. There’s no lack of talent, that’s for sure.”
