The Union is a two man group out of Columbus,Ga. Group members Church and King James met on the first day of kindergarden and have remained friends ever since. King James' father was in the military, which gave him the opportunity to see different states and countries due to constant relocation, mostly between Alabama and Georgia. Both discovered one anothers rhyme books at age 15. It was then they decided to form a group and make a conscious effort to change the face of hip hop music. The group was seperated in 2000 when the two began college in different states. However, they were only an hour drive from each college and made frequent trips to write, record, and perform over a 4 year span. As years past, they lost other potential partners, group members and went through several name changes as a group and as artists. The Union recognizes that the steady trend in hip hop music is to speak of things you have. Unfortunately, the percentage of people who have the luxuries so often placed in the music is far less than those who don't. The Union's main focus is to bring the truth to thier listeners (and hip hop critics in general). Their styles were molded from years of personal pain and many different forms of music. They have a strong sense of consciousness;about their community and the world. The Union desires to help their region gain more respect as lyricists and make the hip hop culture view the south in a new light. The stereotypes of southerners being slow and behind the times is deeply rooted in their minds in each song they create. The Union has coined their style of music "blue-collar rap". They are able to cover any style or coast due to their attention to detail, true to life lyrics, and witt. Both members are able to appeal to a wide audience of races and cultures accross the board. Their pain mixed, with keen sense of humor, can be heard throughout thier music. Like other artists, they are in search of a record deal, but with or without one, they plan to be heard. Already having created a buzz in Georgia and Alabama, they plan to continue accross the south, throughout the states, and around the world.
