*Well, what can be said about The Tumbleweeds? A whole lot. I was lucky enough to see them at On the Y on Friday, September 7th where they appropriately headlined a great night of music. Their sound? True grass roots Rock n' Roll. Bob Dylan meets the Stones with a hint of the Dead. Like I said grass roots Rock n' Roll. Their set opened up with some very danceable numbers that instantly grabbed the crowd's attention. In fact, I was summoned to the bar to fetch the Weeds some water and some dude at the bar said "who are the guys?" "they're really good". A true sign of a good band is when a bar goer ("bar goer" = one who goes to bar to drink) towards the end of the night is instantly interested. He wasn't the only one. You sure could instantly pick out the musicians in the crowd. They were drawn in by the Weeds including myself and just could not get enough.



So who are The Tumbleweeds? They are three transplanted musicians from Utah who found themselves calling Sacramento their new home. The plan? Looks like to start something really big in a medium size town with flowing alcohol at every street corner. As a group The Tumbleweeds are modest, interesting, and very likable although they all seem to have there own personality on and off stage. The beets are laid down by Marcus O'Niel (Marco). Hits them skins hard with a vengeance. Keeps the beets fresh and adds the flair. The four string princess is Ms. Emily "Molly" Richardson. She has great bass lines, an addicting smile with some sweet backup vocals to boot. Now don't get me wrong a couple of extremely talented individuals but what is the deal with Michael Tad Richardson? I would swear this kid was born with a banjo in his hand. Has incredible vocal ability, plays sweet guitar and harmonica, and rocks the piano or keys when available. He does these things with brilliance. You don't really see such natural talent very often so it is really special when you do get to see it. Thank you Michael Tad Richardson and The Tumbleweeds!!!



So what's next? Go see these guys, buy their records (they are working on an album), spend a little cash, and tell a bunch of friends. Go to myspace and check em out, be a friend, and check out upcoming show dates. Call your family and friends. Hell, buy 'em a beer. But most of all ENJOY! This shit will definitely put a smile on your face.
