"The Speedies: An Unfinished Pop Revolution

<"More Speedies

The Speedies were one of the most popular bands of the late 1970's NYC, Max's Kansas City/ C.B.G.B's Club Scene, despite the fact that 3 of the 5 members were still in High School at the time. At the height of their popularity, Allen, the drummer, was only 15, Greg and Eric, the 2 guitar players were 16, and The 2 John's in the band, Marino & Carlucci (John Carl) were 20 & 21, respectively. They broke the House attendance records at Max's Kansas City by selling out 4 shows in one weekend. The lines stretched around the block. The Speedies opened for many of the biggest Punk/Power Pop bands of the era, including The Jam, The Undertones, The Gang of Four, Ultravox, The Members, The David Johanson Group,The Plimsouls, The Rezillos, and the Tourists (pre Eurythymics, Dave Stewart & Annie Lennox) They released 2 independent 45's 1)"Let Me Take your Foto" b/w "No Substitute", which was produced by the late Joel Webber, (the founder of the New Music Seminar). They were recorded at Skyline studios in NYC. 2)"Something on My Mind" b/w "Time", which was produce by Clem Burke of Blondie, and recorded at Jimi Hendrix' Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village. Both singles are quite collectable and command hefty prices on E-bay. The Speedies also released 2 videos that were played on early MTV. "Let Me Take Your Foto" was filmed on the Brooklyn Promenade, directly across the river from The World Trade Center. The Twin Towers can be seen in the video. The Brooklyn Bridge is also prominently featured in the video. "Time" was filmed in the lower Manhattan financial district, near Wall Street. The Speedies were voted the Best Unsigned Band in America by the 1979 NY Rockers readers poll. The Speedies have been included on the following compilation CD's: The Great NY Singles Scene (Roir) Yellow Pills (Numero Group) A long lost Speedies Album, Titled, "YOU NEED POP!", will be released in the coming weeks availiable on I-Tunes. It will include the rare 45's, unreleased material and re-mixes of the previously released songs. Look for "Let Me Take Your Photo" (new spelling) to begin airing as part of a nationwide television commercial this fall. The New Speedies album, "You Need Pop!" is out now on Itunes !!!!! It features unreleased material & re-mixes (done by Jordan Tarlow-x Fuzztones guitar player)
