Hi, and welcome to the crazee world of.

THE SPECTACULARS

Here ye shall find a world that you only thought existed in your most exotic dreams and your most feared nightmares!

History in the making part 1.

When Lee Harvey Tozwold and Doktor Hotknife met in the dark days of a post-rave UK they shared common influences both musical and lyrical. The music of Parliament, The Stooges, Faith No More, acid house, breakbeats and rock 'n' roll. The words of Chris Morris, dark hip-hop raps and comic book superheroes. Teaming up to produce a number of hi-energy tunes which appeared on the radio and wales-based album compilations they were appreciated by the likes of The Prodigy, Steve Lamacq and a very bemused John Peel approached at the dead of night like a silent Jack Ruby. Last Night a Dj raped my wife!!!

After a number of record companies, fanzines and strange hangers-on all declared 'this would be really good live' (up to this point everything was sampled, sequnced, looped, fucked, looped again, turned over and fucked harder.) they set about putting a band together. After two years the band was bummed into submission by vegan aliens after taking vodka in the eye and eating meat pies and cocaine in the woods just outside a hippy festival in the Welsh mountains.

The Doktor talked of early retirement and making more babies, while Toz was secretly building up a new band in Hanger 18

History in the making part 2.

'DAZ the drum' (Stuart Copelands darker half), he the drummer of the Policemen and Ed 'dont start on me fatty' Rees were knocking out funky grooves in the Daz Cafe (you can visit the Daz cafe in Porthcawl and buy some clothes if you like). Toz invited them over and called up the Doktor out of near rock 'n' roll retirement.

They made a noise together they enjoyed it they needed a guitarist

Wales, the land of our fathers, rugby, sheep, close harmony singing, the list is endless. At the top of this list is MUSIC. From this great tradition of song and revelry comes Gorgeous George Jones, son of Mickey Jones of Welsh legends MAN. Guitar slinger from birth, (by christ his mam winced as she gave birth to a baby boy, a les paul and of course a strat), .sideways!!!

Delighted to get his axe into something different, George slid into the role and he keeps sliding. Gorgeousproper gorge.george jones la la la, george jones la la la !

To complete the line-up they scouted for girls (a regular past-time so it was no hardship). After trying out a few, Lizzie was the only one who refused the standard 'can you blow on this for me' and 'while yer down there' lines to come out on top. Its hard being the only girl in a band.

Besides what do you expect when yer name is buckwell?

Crazy baby!

Here are some of the emerging quotes and comments on Vicious Pop the debut album from The Spectaculars UK

"The Spectaculars are a tumble dryer full of aural colours, fledgling ideas, and great playing and must be a hell of a live act!" Get ready to rock

"Rock, rap, funk, punk, psychedelia and even 80’s pop find themselves stirred into the mix as these culture vultures pay homage to their past and on occasion cheekily nick riffs from a variety of sources while coming up with a sound that is entirely original and peerless." Peppermint Iguana

"If Robert Rodriguez is looking for a soundtrack to his next cocky, shoot 'em up thriller he need look no further than The Spectaculars' debut album Vicious Pop.The Swansea outfit has shoehorned more sleaze, party spirit, primal wailing and commitment into 10 tracks than anyone could ask for." - Swansea Evening Post

"Hyperbolic saskwatchian metal funk rap fusion with progressive leanings." Celtic Rock Music

"An in yer face debut album with parental warning due to a very large smattering of F words from the Welsh six piece. Synths, backbeats, and loud guitars and thumping drums lay the foundations for some very energetic sounds. Promotional notes refer to Apocalypse Beach Party as "if Quentin Tarrantino was to produce a band it would probably sound like this" Nuff said. Smatterings of pop, funk, and hip-hop produce a complex and challenging result. If Rammstein, the Pistols and the B52's were in a jamming session together, (scary thought), this would be the outcome." Richard Lancashire The journal of the Classic Rock Society Dec07 / Jan08

"Vicious Pop is the long awaited debut album from these Welsh rockers. Describing their sound is a near-impossible task, considering that they've apparently borrowed from just about every genre of the past 30 years. This album is an intriguing blend that shows obvious influences from (most notably) Faith No More, among others. " Buzz Magazine
