ABOUT

The early days of The Sound Ex were a blur of fifteen minute sets that ended in injury and/or threats of violence. They played with bands such like The Dirtbombs and The Subways and decided to ditch potential careers in professional football and librarianism to make a beautiful musical racket. By early 2004 they had become one of the fiercest live bands in the North of England and signed to Newcastle based Captains Of Industry, who released two extremelylimited edition singles - ‘Time After Time’ (September 2004) and ‘Street Freak’ (March 2005) and the bands self titled debut album (June 2005). Recorded over two frantic weekends in 2004, The Sound Ex’s self-titled album ‘The Sound Explosion’ (as they were then known) was released June 2005 to much critical acclaim.

In the Summer of 2006 and two hundred gigs later both headlining and as support to various bands including The Datsuns, The Mooney Suzuki, Amen, The 5678’s, The (International) Noise Conspiracy the band entered the studio with the Paul Reeve who had previously worked with the likes of Muse and Supergrass– the band signed up for a 4 week stint at the legendary Sawmills Recording studios in deepest Cornwall with him and proceeded to record 14 tracks of intensely head on rock and roll – as usual ignoring all musical trends and instead following their desire to make classic British Rock music. The band are now signed to the extremely successful Indie Rock Label ‘Demolition Records’ (coincidentally also in their hometown of Newcastle) and their album ‘Palomino’ was released October 13th

Still The Sound Ex are constantly creating powerful melodies and honing them for your listening pleasure

PRESS

"Flying high on a battery of electrocuted riffs and flayed-raw adrenaline, frontmen Glen and Kit make for a deliciously attitude-free musical thrill…" Kerrang!

"With 'In The City' and pile driving new single 'Loss', The Sound Ex have once again staked a claim to being this country's finest exponents of the Garage Rock Genre". "There are 3 more bands The Sound Ex – but it isn't worth hanging around to see them. There's just no point at all really" Classic Rock - Live review

"Whoa! Turn up the volume! The Sound Explosion you suspect, would lay down their lives for rock and roll…" Steve Lamacq, Radio 1

"A hurricane of scratchy blues, screams and squealing solos whipped up by an intense foursome who thrash around the stage all clenched teeth, unkempt locks and flailing limbs…" Kerrang!, live review

"…The Sound Explosion are the most exciting live band on the planet today. A whirlwind of crotch thrusts, wind milling guitar playing, star jumps and head banging fervour on stage, it was a nail-biting worry that they wouldn't be able to transfer their ferocious sound onto disc. This worry has proved unfounded. An awesome debut." Classic Rock

"Skinny white boys with long hair and loud guitars – hardly a new formula, but when Sound Explosion shiver, shake and sweat out their apocalyptic vision of what rock, blues and soul SHOULD sound like, it suddenly doesn't matter" Kerrang!

"The Sound Explosion's blues-rock is clearly derivative but these Geordies sprinkle enough modern youthful enthusiasm into their performance to make them real contenders. They rock…" Rock Sound

"Armed with swagger, high octane energy and steeped in rock & roll, the Sound Explosion are a killer teenage power quartet who know that the only truth left in rock & roll is getting out there and playing the damn stuff." - John Robb Playlouder

"If Jimi Hendrix, Jack White and Jon Spencer had a three-way, The Sound Explosion might just be the offspring. ." Drownedinsound.com

“So many bands have dishonestly claimed to be the living breathing embodiment of revolutionary rock n roll that its genuinely unnerving to find one that really is” Kerrang! (KKKK)

"Next year will undoubtedly be theirs for the taking" Rocksound
