Introducing Jim Lawlor aka 'The Sham', possibly the only full-time dairy farmer to inhabit MySpace.

The Sham has been performing since the mid 80's and had early hits with such classics as 'The Lottery Song' and 'Peg Boland's Aberdeen Angus Bull' from 'The Dungspreader Album' (described by one critic as a load of manure!). The Sham headlined at a number of venues, all the way from Portarlington to Monasterevin.

However it is in Ballycarroll, a townsland on the outskirts of Portarlington, that Jim finds the inspiration for his songs. All facets of human experience, love, jealousy and intrigue can be found here. In spite of his close ties to the land, the Sham is widely travelled and jets off to the sun each winter (once he has dried off the cows).

As attested to in songs such as 'The Breathalyser' and 'The Wino', Jim has been known to enjoy the occasional social drink and also the odd flutter on the horses.

Jim enjoyed a mildly successful career with the Davis brothers in a group called 'The Corner Boys' in the late 80's, a band which never quite fulfilled their early potential. They subsequently disbanded due to artistic differences when on the verge of a record deal. These and other events are explored in more detail on Jim's interview with the late Dave Fitzmaurice, his close personal friend, confidante and official biographer.

While it is difficult to pigeon-hole Jim's talents, his inluences include Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Christy Moore, The Wheel Keenan and Joe "Diesel" Kiernan. You can check out his music and musings in The Thatch Bar, Millionaires Row, Killenard and also in the Teddy Bear's beside the train station in Portarlington. Available for hire for weddings, wakes, christenings, barmitzvahs, threshings and house warmings. If you like your music real The Sham's your man!
