A rapper-songwriter, community leader, and a motivational speaker, Chuckie A. Nguyen hails from the Jane and Finch area of Toronto. Starting back in his early days as a battle rapper, he ranked in the Top 16 battle emcee's of Toronto, a competition hosted by Kiss 92. Eventually leaving that scene he began recording songs and posting them online which lead to him developing a huge online fan base. His journey soon began to start, in a period of a year and a half he released 4 consecutive albums and multiple music video's online and in and around Toronto releasing over 10,000 Cd's. At one point the internet was flooded with his music causing websites to crash due to the high traffic.
His music told stories of his struggles and pains growing up as a Vietnamese-Canadian in poverty. Although at times were contradicted with lyrics of anger and violence. He was still able to touch the hearts of listeners worldwide. Soon becoming a familiar face to the local public, being featured on almost every newspaper and news program in Toronto. Chuckie was a natural born community leader, taking time out to visit schools and speaking to troubled students. His youthful dedication to pursuing his dreams and passion for music has definitely shown through his achievements as an Asian-Canadian artist.
However with the good comes the bad and the young and misled Chuckie learned things the hard way. With no proper guidance he took all the wrong paths in both his music and personal life. The outcome was a poor marketing value on his image and career, even though his online music numbers were unmatchable by any other Canadian artist at the time, it was not organized. With no financial backing and support for his music, he did not take music seriously and instead lived in the underworld. The reward for that landed him a spot on the Toronto gang task force list and years of trouble from the police.
However with experience comes wisdom, and with that Chuckie quickly began to clean up his reputation. In October of 2005 he was apart of two nationwide documentaries in which he attempted to clear the stigma that had been long associated with his name.
As the era of Chuckie Akenz slowly came to an end, a new era of young and promising artists emerged from Chuckie's footsteps. With a new generation being born into the ever changing music scene, many questions linger as to what is next for Chuckie? The answer is, there is no more Chuckie Akenz, but undoubtedly what comes next, will not be what was.
C.A lives on.
