"You guys are like The Roots with funk."

- Robert Randolph

"Get Right" is a straight up classic. Drawing influences from The Roots, Jurassic5, and according to the group itself, Soulive, The Press Project spit hot rhymes and rhythms. They vibe towards the R&B side of funk, but some songs like "Rally" elicit such an arm-bouncing rush ("let me see ya bounce!") that strangers next to you and your headphones will wonder whether or not you are epileptic.

- Hot Indie News

Thankfully, there are groups that haven’t forgotten where hip-hop truly began. Portsmouth’s The Press Project successfully mixes elements of hip-hop, jazz and funk on their debut album, Get Right [and] proves that as long as there is a message, people will (and should) listen.

- Nick Stefanovich Performer Magazine March 2008

"The Press Project was incredible! I will remember their performance

until the day I die, it was that good."

- Bodog Music's Christian Henderson on The Press Project's Performance @ The Bodog Battle of the Bands

"SO. The Press Project’s debut album ‘Get Right’ has been in my car, officially, for 36 hours - it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

- Maria

"The combined effect [of the seven members' diverse musical backgrounds] offers both a throwback to the funk and soul music of the 1970s and a fresh, contemporary hip-hop strain. Occasional hints of Latin jazz can be detected in the keyboard notes, while the vocals often reek of old school rhythm and blues. As a result, Press Project crowds often include teenagers and middle-aged folks in near equal numbers."

- The Wire

BIO

Blending hip-hop, soul, jazz and funk with an eclectic and poignant tongue twisting lyrical style, the seven members of The Press Project circulate massive amounts of physical and musical energy in a supercharged live performance spectacle.

The Press Project has arrived as a force on the underground music scene with performances alongside acts including The Roots, Soulive, Robert Randolph, George Clinton, Slick Rick and more. The band cemented its status as an act to watch at the 2008 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN where it garnered serious attention and was one of only six hip-hop acts invited to play. The band’s debut album ‘Get Right’ was one of the top added albums on the CMJ charts in January 2008 and climbed into the Top 40, ranking as high as number twenty nine.

The Press Project is a movement, equal parts instrumentals that make people get up out of their seats and messages that make them think and believe in music again. The sounds and lyrics appeal to everyone from hip-hop heads to jazz and soul junkies and the average listener of any age. As guest vocalist Iyeoka states on the album, "These are the voices you believe in.This is The Press y'all."

The band originated in early 2005 amidst the burgeoning artistic landscape of the NH Seacoast. In the beginning of the beginning, members were collected to form a band out of necessity in order to back the ever-eloquent underground hip-hop master Breeze Evahflowin from NYC at a local show. From these auspicious roots grew a movement and that movement adopted a magnetic quality, pulling together the musical and lyrical best in the surrounding area. The Press Project was formed.

At its base, The Press Project is a trio of MCs supported by keyboards, lead guitar, bass and drums. At its most complex The Press Project is a group set to shift the musical paradigm. The sound that emanates from the stage is best described as ear canal narcotics; a finely tuned blend of hip-hop, soul, jazz, blues, funk and rock n roll. It has been said that the band's music ushers audience members to a particular state of mind and that live shows are filled with an intense and enthralling force unlike any other.

The band performs over twenty originals, fourteen of which were recently laid down on the debut album. In addition, the band performs select covers by The Roots, Guru, Common, Talib Kweli and others.

"If the world keeps spinnin'." Catchy as HELL! Make damn sure you

- 104.1 WBCN DJ Adam 12 on The Press Project's Upcoming LP Release

"The Press Project - Damn man, these guys kill it for us every time. This show will sell out, there will be a line. Get down here early and be ready to get sweaty."

- Muddy River/Bourbon's - Portsmouth, NH

"These guys graduated from the same school of hip-hop as I did. You can feel the influence of Pharcyde, The Roots, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, even Arrested Development on their vocals, their style, even their spiritual outlook. It comes through on the record too. They come from a peaceful era of hip-hop, where jazz was central and love was fundamental."

- Andy Howard - "Meet The Full-On Press"; Seacoastonline.com, 9/20/07

"One after another, the tracks fill my ears and bring my mind to an elevated space where I would just as soon sit alone with my innermost thoughts as I would sit amongst the most dapper of people and make new memories. And somehow still it takes me to a nostalgic place. It’s a wonder to think most of the memories that I am taken to didn’t have this album playing in the background. The world outside becomes like a personalized music video in which even the flowers bounce with you. It’s surely enough to get your frontal lobe firing. The diversified beats and lyrical seductions are enough to make me want to bounce low down, twist one up, and get it on. Well done, boys. Well done."

- Maria

"You guys are way to sick not to have die hard fans willing to convert the masses, away from the market driven bullshit."

- Flea

"No joke, these guys are really good! one of the most entertaining live performances i have seen in a while. Big time!"
