THE PETTY BONES
Acoustically based multi-instrumentalists, with emotionally charged songwriting and vocals, The Petty Bones continue to deliver a variety of rootsy original, traditional & cover tunes to an ever increasing group of loyal listeners from all ages and backgrounds.
Since their beginning as a duo, Jerry and Anne shared roadhouse floors, stages, live radio and studio session time with many artists including Big Daddy O, The Benji Davis Project, Bonnie Bramlett, Chris Thomas King, Colin Linden & the legendary Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown.
Drawing from an array of rock influences of their generation, as well as the traditional acoustic sounds of Appalachia, Folk, Blues, Country, Ragtime and Jazz, the duo began hosting Birdie's Roadhouse Open Mic Night in 2002 and continued through 2008. An experience they attribute to their continuing development as "late blooming" performers, while jamming weekly with the some of the region's most talented players, both amateur and professional.
During the spring of 2004, the duo officially named themselves The Petty Bones and released their debut Cd, PINE. The recordings began as a demo, which through a spontaneous turn of events, became a full length Cd. PINE has been featured on Roots/Americana Radio worldwide, where it continues to reach new listeners. Recorded in Hattiesburg, Mississippi & Bogalusa, Louisiana, the release was engineered and co-produced by Steve Stubblefield (Starlings TN-Chicken Ranch Records)
In 2004, California native, Harvey Jones, began playing regularly with the duo and the band has featured several additional guest musicians through the years, including Steven Stubblefield, Mike Stokes, Keith Cole, Jude LeBlanc, Charles Macgowan, Jerry Hess, Bobby Belloni, John Markezich and Spider Murphy.
In 2008, along with the Abita Spring's Opry's Executive Producer, Bryan Gowland and Technical Director, Kent Birkle, The Petty Bones presented a series of historical "informances" in conjunction with the Smithsonian's Institute's traveling exhibit, New Harmonies-Celebrating Roots Music in America. The series was presented in St. Tammany Parish's Middle Schools and also at the New Harmonies opening receptions in Abita Springs & Ruston, Louisiana.
The Petty Bones are one of the opening house bands for the The Abita Springs Opry. With it's dedication to the preservation of Louisiana Roots music, the show is presented six times per year featuring a variety of genre's presented during each show. The Abita Springs Opry is re-broadcast on several public access networks throughout the United States.
