Formed in Austin, Texas in 1990, by Adam Grossman (guitars/vocals) and Danny Lohner (guitars/background vocals) Skrew rose from the ashes of crossover thrash band Angkor Wat of which Grossman and Lohner were members. Although SKREW's 1992 release Burning In Water, Drowning In Flame was hailed by SPIN Magazine as "the future of industrial noise" and was the biggest selling debut ever on Metal Blade Records, Danny Lohner left the band to join industrial giants Nine Inch Nails shortly thereafter. Afterwards Skrew became the sole vision of guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Adam Grossman, and despite being referred to as a band, the group was more of a solo expression of Grossman's affinity for what would become known as industrial metal. The genre was still being forged during the early '90s and Grossman deserves credit for shaping the direction and identity of a music form that made similar artists like Nine Inch Nails and White Zombie huge stars. The follow-up Dusted, released in 1994, was chosen by Guitar World Magazine as one of the Top 10 "Metal" albums of 1994 - a list rounded out by the likes of Soundgarden, Pantera, and Danzig. SKREW's video for "Picasso Trigger" got considerable MTV airplay during this time, and was even featured in an episode of "Beavis and Butthead". During their entire career the band's lineup changes were constant, and shortly after Dusted was released guitarist Mike "Possum" Robinson left the band and went on to join Prong and finally Rob Zombie, changing his name to "Riggs" somewhere along the way. 1996's Shadow of a Doubt earned SKREW a very rare second appearance at Holland's world renowned Dynamo Festival, and even earned the band a grammy nomination. During this period of time the band also saw former Overkill guitarist Bobby Gustafson join it's ranks as well. The band's final offering in 1997, Angel Seed XXIII, was somewhat of a departure from their early sound as it was more song oriented and almost dirgey at times though just as angry as before. At this stage the band now included former Circus Of Power bassist Frapp as well. Although the band never acheived the platinum status of many of their peers and split up sometime around 1998, Grossman and Skrew deserve credit and respect for having the brains to create something forward-thinking and interesting during a brief period when that approach to making rock music was actually being encouraged and rewarded.

Today, many former Skrew members can be found in other bands. Former guitarist Danny Lohner enjoyed a long and successful career in NIN, and most recently has surfaced in a new band called "Black Light Burns" alongside former Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland. Guitarist Steve "Snake" Green has most recently been seen in Skinlab, bassist Mike Peoples went on to a long career with 16 Volt and Bassist Kyle Sanders can currently be found in Bloodsimple. Guitarist Mike "Possum/Riggs" Robinson played in Prong briefly and then had a long tenure with Rob Zombie, he can now be found in Scum Of The Earth alongside former Skrew guitarist Clay Campbell. Adam Grossman himself most recently resurfaced in industrial giants Ministry, though he did not stay long. Grossman is now rumored to be working on a new project with ex-Ministry bassist Paul Barker.
