C2. The Hangman’s vertebrae is the bone Mark Harrod fractured in a diving accident in 2000. The injury gave him a new perspective on life. “The gravity of the world will try to hinder your conviction. Don’t wait. Do what you love. Everything breaks.”

A mathematics degree from the University of Wisconsin and a finance career only made Mark feel “trapped in a normal life.” October of 2008 marked his last month of normalcy. The perspective Mark gained from his accident finally bled into his lifestyle and more importantly, his song-writing. Complacency is no longer welcome. The status quo no longer applies. “The world won’t stop spinning for anyone, so keep moving. I learned that the hard way, and I carry that knowledge with me in every song I write and every show I play.”

Quietly Marching is Mark Harrod’s freshman solo album. Introduced to the Madison, Wisconsin music scene via Project M, WMMM-FM’s songwriting competition in the spring of 2009, Mark met and befriended musicians he would later recruit. Producer Scott Lamps (The Profits, Compass Rose) was the first person Mark employed. Lamps’ musicianship and perspective proved to be invaluable in the creation of Quietly Marching. Fellow Project M alum Whitney Mann and Nick Mathews make appearances on this record along with other Madison musicians: Scott Beardsley (Lorenzo Music), Ida Jo (Compass Rose), and Mama Dig Downs Brass Band. Utilizing the recording expertise of Smart Studios and DNA Studios for tracking and mixing, Quietly Marching is a deliberate artwork envoking dramatic emotion and well-crafted pop melody.
