The Low Countries are an indie-folk duo signed to cult indie label Nub Country Records and Van Steene Music Publishing. They write and perform songs that are really rather good - from melancholy Americana to quirky indie-pop: 'harmonious, melancholic, and often uplifting songs in a folk-pop hat'
Nigel's songs have been played on BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Lancashire, Unpeeled.net, Folk Radio UK, Dandelion Radio, Studio Brussels, Radio Centraal and many others.
Some reviews:
A lovely piano-led ballad. Gentle, effective and by far the best Anglo-Flemish duo of the week – also included in my personal Top 5. I don't normally go for piano-led slow burners like this but it felt real, it felt heartfelt and it felt good. I really like the way the song builds: they put me in mind of Ron Sexsmith who is rather brilliant. This is indie folk music from the heart and I say "give it a go." ' BBC Radio 6 Fresh On The Net 2012 ('at the end of the day')
'.funny, sad, well crafted and wise, more of a hymn to low wits and high values.' unpeeled.net ('carry on christmas')

'The Low Countries: splendid melancholia which sounds like a North Country version of Golden Smog or Josh Rouse. Nigel Parrington is definitely onto something' Howard Byrom, The Lancaster Guardian 4 05 07

'warm acoustic-based americana-infused blend of classic songwriting. Melodies, harmonies, middle-eights and banjo combine to soothe your weary heads' Opposite of Robot Promotions
Their fourth album for Nub Country records, 'summer's last hurrah', was released on the 30th of October 2011 - the last day of BST. It contains 14 eclectic indie-folk-pop songs regarding the weather; Brian Cox's Locks; hopes of Spring and suicidal dreams.
'a brown cafe at 3am' released the previous year contains 12 late night vibe songs about friendship; Boris Karloff's monster; the best music cafe that ever existed; absent friends; winos; aching desire in the modern world; absinthe and death. A late night classic to guide your weary soul into the early hours of the new morning; it's new wave indie folk at its best.
In 2008, inspired by a love of The Wicker Man, Nigel wrote a concept album. This was to be a soundtrack to an imaginary prequel to The Wicker Man. 'the failing of the strains' garnered excellent reviews and is already a cult classic.
The Low Countries signed to Nub Country Records in 2007 and released their debut album 'hypericum perforatum, in the same year, to critical yesness. 'Indie folk at its best' to quote but one review (Folk Radio UK).
