The Line Divides was formed August 2004 in the little island off coast Cebu, Mactan Island. Paul(guitar), George(vocals), Sergie(guitar), Reinar(bass) and Meo(drums) – bonded by friendship and for the love of music, formed this piece to express themselves – their art. The genre then was metal+rock+alternative with influences by Deftones, Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, Thursday, The Used, etc. TLD was playing at bars around Cebu City and Mactan, playing cover songs and made an impact at cebu’s music underground scene.

But not too long - Meo(the drummer) had to leave TLD to go to manila to join the AFP Band(yes, you read right). A new drummer came in - Pocholo - but also did not last long, left the band to go to manila to study. TLD disbanded mid 2005 coz’ at that time, there was no clear direction.

From mid 2005 until late 2006 til’ they got back, The Line Divides was silent. The general public never knew where they were or what they were up to. Everyone thought the The Line Divides was a thing of the past.

August 2006, 2 years after their first hoorah, the guys met up again, spearheaded by Paul. For about a year that they weren't together, Paul was already writing/creating original songs. He was inspired by Les Paul’s quote, “I wanted to create music that was so different that my mother could tell me from anyone else”. They joined forces and noticeably, they've grown maturely in music and took a new direction and genre with Paul’s original compositions with the help of Sergie, Reinar, George and the new drummer, Edric. The band was up for a challenge.

The main influence for their new style was a mixture of new wave-pop-alternative which created a "new school" sound. By this time, their sound was so new – considering the bands and the music that cebu has. Nobody played the same music as them but they took this as inspiration and as a challenge.

The Line Divides 1st gig was on October 28, 2006 at Handuraw Halloween Party. The crowd was “shocked” and "wowed" at the same time to see and hear them since they’ve been out from the music scene mid 2005. Their performance was pop and refreshing - TLD created a new sound in cebu - since everybody was dancing, then it was baptized as disco+rock+alternative – thus TLD was back on the map now playing original compositions.

The Line Divides created more new songs and had new influences, the likes of Duranduran, The Cure, Wham!, Police, Beatles and Michael Jackson – to name a few. New wave+pop+riffs+beats was the direction, playing gigs and radio guestings around the Metro. In early 2007, they added a keyboardist, Mikee to supplement more effects and pop melodies. They recorded their 1st single “Daydream Dance” and later on became an instant success on radio airplays(by then, it was already a fave during live gigs). “Daydream Dance” was no.1 on BT105.9fm Monster Radio and also TLD became artist of the month August 2007.

By the end of 2007, TLD had another obstacle, Mikee decided to leave the band. Luckily, it did not take them long to find a replacement. Larry joined the club to do the keys early 2008. TLD has a following already but still playing in the underground scene with only “Daydream Dance” playing in the radios. One of their big breaks happened on this year, late 2008, the producers of Itzamatch Perfect Campus Couple Challenge TV show got TLD and the song “Daydream Dance” as a original sound track. This created a wider audience for The Line Divides, reaching new souls and spreading their music even more.

February 2009, TLD approached Kaloy Uypuanco of RocketOne artist management group. They wanted to “professionalize” their direction as a band. In just 6 months, they were invited in numerous events, both local and international that was held here in Cebu City, TLD released their debut album “Signals and Sounds”, got sold-out during their album launching, a month after, “Signals and Sounds” became the number 1 local album at 93.1 Smash fm, they got featured at RCTV’s Tambayan sa Oupost, shot a music video by IAFT students, got featured on Y101 eskina which is heard all over the world, had a tour in bohol, and more – hence “the new sound of the south” was born! Also one of their biggest break happened just this year,2009. They got invited to play for SONIC BOOM 3rd year anniversary in Manila. The reception was great that for 2 weeks, TLD was there, only on a Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday that they had no gigs, the rest of the days were spent busy promoting their album, promoting “the new sound of the south” (which by the way “Signals and Sounds” also got sold-out there). They were featured at NU107 in the raw with Francis Brew, which made the cut “We Go Dancin’” as the featured track of the week. UR105.9 also had a feature on TLD and released “Daydream Dance” on their regular playlist. “In Between” made it on the countdown on Jam88.3. That made new grounds for music, releasing 3 different singles in 3 different radio stations.

The band has a clear direction, growing stronger by the day and TLD music is now climbing thru the airwaves nationwide and trying to reach a farther scope to as far as Australia and Europe. With the collaboration and help of some really good names in the music industry and working with other RocketOne bands, TLD is pushed and inspired to move their sound to greater heights, following their mentors and also creating a new path not only for them but to the cebu music scene, as one. This Dance hasn’t stop yet. We hope it never will.

“Music is the hardest kind of art. It doesn’t hang up on a wall and wait for passersby. It’s communication. It’s hours and hours being put into a work of art that may only last, in reality, for a few moments… but if done well, and truly appreciated, it’ll last in our hearts forever. That’s art. Speaking with your heart to the hearts of others”
