The Last Writes

The Last Writes are a group that encompass many a genres into there post-911 pre-apocalyptic style of hip-hop music. Their record "The Last Writes the First Chapter" contains a variety of sounds ranging from Nina Simone and Dave Bruback samples to heavy and sometimes haunting prose delivered by the Emcee Chapter One. The dicotomy of this record is very prevailent when listening to songs like Collage which features the harmonic vocals of Matt Embree over a soft and melodic beat by the Optimist, in contrast with the song Oxblood which showcases Chapter one's harder and more steadfast style of rhyming over a cacophony of sounds looped by the Optimist.
