The Kinship serves it up hotter than the Texas sun with its unique blend of hard rock, blues and soul. This is a great rock band simply for the sake of being a great rock band - no pretenses, no frills, and absolutely no desire to follow trends. Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Shelbone grew up in Port Arthur, Texas - the same small gulf coast town as the rest of his band mates. In search of the rock'n'roll dream, he moved to Los Angeles in 1995 where he formed the first line up of The Kinship. After gigging the Southern California circuit for nearly five years at the height of the rap-metal movement, it became apparent that the scene back home in Texas would probably be a more fitting place for his rootsy, soulful approach to rock music. “I loved playing and living in L.A. but the music scene there is a very trendy environment. I’m much more interested in creating a timeless soulful sound. The Kinship has never been about chasing the flavor of the month. We try to write songs that get better with age.” Upon returning home Shelbone formed what would become the first Texas line up of The Kinship. There they quickly recorded the group’s debut album “Beautiful Deadly Addiction” which instantly became a regional rock staple. So much in fact it brought about an invitation to record the group’s second effort “Tastefully Obscene” with long time producer/engineer David Dickinson of Lone Wolf / Boiler Room Studios in Austin, TX. “I couldn’t be more proud of this effort,” says Shelbone. “I’ve been very fortunate to work with some incredibly talented musicians to help me realize this musical vision, which continues to grow better and stronger. We’ve brought in some new faces, some new energy that is truly taking the music to the next level.” Caylan Daughrity is one of the best guitarists to hail from the Gulf Coast in years, what he brings to The Kinship’s sound is amazing. The duo of Chris Webb and Aaron Franks couldn’t be a more tightly knit rhythm section. And of course the addition of Jay Stauffer on Hammond & Piano rounds out the line up for what is one of the strongest rock bands to ever emerge from this area. “For years I’ve had a vision in my mind, and finally we have all the elements to make that vision a reality.” As for the band members themselves, someone with Shelbone’s experience, strong voice, and great songwriting ability was just what was needed to take things to the next level. “It was immediately apparent to all of us that we had finally found what we had all been looking for, a true musical kinship. Our sound is constantly maturing, progressing. We have finally become exactly what I have always wanted to be, say…Zeppelin gone Motown with a touch of our southern heritage, the rock edge with a soulful feel.” With two albums on the street and pre-production already underway for the third, The Kinship continues to build its ever-growing fan base throughout the Texas region, and beyond. As Shelbone explains… “Performing on stage is where the group's true heart and soul shines. We connect well with our audience. We love performing.and to see new fans out there, moving and participating.it’s just the greatest feeling. Regardless of where we are, or how many we’re playing for, we always do our best to deliver the best show possible.” " Live videos coming soon
