"A talented songwriter who only began songwriting during the early ‘90s, JAPONICA (Justin Edward Michaelman) sounds as if he’s been writing all his life. Justin writes deliciously sarcastic sentimental songs with straightforward rhymes on a diversity of subjects.

Some topics are introspective and extremely personal, but he is also capable of writing songs with universal appeal. His lyrics are intertwined with deep-rooted kazoo solos and are emotionally moving. It’s easy to simply close your eyes and let him paint a vivid picture in your mind.

Michaelman’s intriguing guitar strumming style is an excellent accompaniment to his resonant voice and adds to the appeal of his music, which has incorporated change, and change is good.

Justin has changed his music. He still sings to the heavens and he still sings to hell, but he's not just singing to the choir anymore. His new sound is reaching those who may not necessarily know what it's like to walk the walk. His new CD, JAPONICA with the KNIPS: LIVE FROM PLUTO, is reminiscent of those who dared to change - people like Waylon Jennings and Bob Dylan. JAPONICA is on to something. It won't be the easiest of roads, but it will be a road that JAPONICA will pave. Justin Edward Michaelman is pure musical talent."
