The Hearing feature in July's issue of Music Mart magazine.

"Now that really is a bit special isn't it. It's by The Hearing from Coventry"

Steve Lamacq, Radio 1

“Both dynamic and increasingly impressive at peddling experiments in thrilling post-rock clatter”

Hardeep Phull, NME

"(Mostly) instrumental epics, drawn out over dark, wide-reaching soundscapes. Its's basically a polished take on post-rock, with clean/distorted and quiet/loud passages building slowly through to some fiery, apocalyptic climaxes. Vocals are a rare, sparsely-used addition to the mix. It's in the live environment that the condensed power of these songs is realyl unleashed, and where the band's obvious class shines through"

"Oceansize sans the vocals, Mogwai, Explosions in the sky.if your into darkly dramatic, wordless post-rock you WILL love this band"MusicMart Mag

"There aren't a great many bands flying the flag for prog-rock these days, with the moping of post-rock making much more of an impact. With any luck, The Hearing will begin a whole new movement of progressive bands that's been rumbling ever since Secret Machines debuted.

The Hearing give you an idea of what would happen if Kinski, Interpol and Bloc Party had a bastard child. The wiry guitar tones on .And Somewhere A Light Goes Out build, ebb and flow across up to eight minutes at a time. Songs – more pieces than songs, even – are given a chance to grow and evolve for as long as it takes before reaching arresting climaxes on the likes of 'Absent Foundations For Construction,' while others simply grab you by the throat midway through, unleashing a torrent of defiant noise.

Whilst strictly speaking none of this is anything new in prog or noise rock, the addition of creepy feedback, hard rock riffs, heartfelt piano or funky codas like on 'Rumours From The Fifth Floor' gives the material an edge often missing from the genre. Furthermore, the entire CD is in sharp focus rather than lost beneath the dope-fuelled haze that, say, the Aliens imply. With any luck .ASALGO is the advent of a whole new wave of progressive bands, although how many of them will be as good as The Hearing is a different question entirely."

“Coventry born and bred postrockapunk? Yes. The Hearing find influences where S Club fear to tread angry, swirling guitars, heart-stopping rhythms, strung out instrumentals no gameshow would dare use as a theme tune. They wear their Sonic Youth and Mogwai influences like a faithful old band shirt and you'll wear your chin round your ankles once you've seen them."The Fly Mag
