Since forming 2005, Arlington, TX-based garage/indie rockers The Future Unlived have slowly garnered a local following of faithful fans. With the release of their first self-titled, self-released E.P. in 2007 and the recent release of their self-titled, self-released L.P., The Future Unlived is poised to expose their gritty cocktail of energetic, genre-bending rock to the masses. At the core of the band are Danny Balvin and guitarist/soundscape manipulator Jeff Davis, who serendipitously met through a mutual friend and immediately the musical chemistry. After going through more drummers than Spinal Tap (including one who stole the bands drum set with his departure), the band has settled on its current line-up including drummer Justin Stettner and bassist Jesse Meik.
The first studio recording, "The Future Unlived" was self-released in June, 2007 and showcases some of the sonic extremes embraced by the band. The E.P. opens with the swaggering and melodic "Devil on the Patio", and includes the pounding alt-rock anthem "Machine", vintage rock masterpieces "Superfast" and "Lay low" along with the glorious indie-rock ballad "Evil Eye". Although The Future Unlived brings influences from a variety of rock subgenres, an undercurrent of blues rock is nearly always present in their songs.
In their latest studio efforts, "TFU-L.P." was self-released in this album the band seamlessly melds elements from post-punk guitar rock with a generous infusion of blues and pure jam-out spunk. Their latest album winds through eight genre-bending tracks but is always grounded with a thunderous and steady rhythm section, plaintive vocals, and gloriously riffing guitars.
The end result is a beautiful amalgamation of focused chaos, spirited energy, and rough-around-the-edges production that highlights indie rock at its best.
