From the depths of the industrial landscape of Wollongong on the New South Wales south coast, indie hip hop act

Free Agent Crew have been melding the musical genres for the last eighteen months hard at work on their debut full-length album due for release April 2010 through independent label Orphans Music.

With their debut release ‘iPods Killed Cover Art’ released in 2007 through Orphans Music/Obese Records the band headed up and down the east coast for shows supporting the likes of The Herd, True Live, Muph & Plutonic and Regurgitator while also playing their own headline shows along the way. Now a four-piece the band has started to make some solid in-roads around the country.

The last 18 months saw the band take a break from touring with the band releasing their ‘Snakebite’ EP‘ toward the end of 2008 with the title track being added to spot rotation on Triple J.

This year has seen Free Agent Crew hard at work on their first full length offering and are ready to get back on stage – ASAP.

With an eclectic mix of funk, rock and hip hop, the band have been compared to the funk and

intensity of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magic mixed with the sound and piano sensibility of Elton John circa Yellow Brick Road.

The band; Simon Grant (Piano/Vocals) Michael Hodgins (Bass) Shaun Snider (Guitar) and Alex Barker (Drums) have taken a broad approach and attitude to the record having not been confined by the parameters of what has been released by the band in the past.

The new Free Agent Crew record is a mature, thought-provoking effort based heavily around strong song writing while still maintaining the funk and groove the band have been known to deliver.

".It became increasingly difficult for those punters sitting down on the chairs and stools to have any clear vision of the stage as almost every one had shifted to the dance floor half way through their set." - Faster, Louder.

“Wollongonians Free Agent Crew got the house jumping to their eclectic melding of musical genres. RHCP’s One Hot Minute styled funk with Elton John circa Yellow Brick Road piano sensibilities.” Faster, Louder

“.They sure are some confident kids!” - Faster, Louder.
