The Fairytale, (n.) a. An unreal or incredible story. Bullshit. An exaggeration of sexual conquests. b. A falsehood, a guise. Androgyny. c. A three piece sludge/punk/metal band from Birmingham. Travelling gypsies. Vagrants. Experienced lovers.

Inspired by rock music ranging from the The Melvins, Sabbath, Suede and David Bowie, the Fairytale create music which defies categorisation with influences from punk, grunge, metal, stoner rock and alternative. Their philosophy is that they neither adhere to the practices of, nor shun, any particular scene. Live shows emphasise performance, theatricality and showmanship which are a reflection of their music - after all what good is a gag if the whip isn’t gonna make you scream?

"First band to take to the stage were Birmingham based The Fairytale.

I liked what I’d heard from these guys on their myspace and live,

they didn’t disappoint… at first. A few songs into the set front man/guitarist

Dan Daydream managed to break his guitar!?! Thankfully he had a second guitar.

Oh right, he didn’t! If it wasn’t for Nikki Smash of The Rockets Dolls lending

his guitar it would have been a very short set. It took about 15 minutes for

The Fairytale to start up again and to be honest it was not worth it.

What interest they had sparked at 9pm when their set started was long gone

and a number of people had now lost interest. The Rocket Dolls and Bad Sign are definitely two of the freshest live bands

on the scene right now so go and see them when they come to your town.

As for The Fairytale… once we left the venue we had a very interesting evening.

But that’s a whole different story…"

''.Clearly Cinderella would run away in terror, but the alternative style of these beauties was like rose petals in a cyclone. Whilst pretty in essence you had to admire the brute force of this performance. Dan’s vocals ranged from angel to beast, especially demonstrated in the show stopping Testosterone. The Fairytale’s set was pure quality, their charismatic music and personalities were a delight and enjoyed by all.''
