The Engine Room is an independant record label and promotions company based in Leeds, UK. Conceived in April 2003 as a way to put on bands we like in a venue we like, The Engine Room has quickly grown into one of the best, independant monthly gig nights in the city The majority of Engine Room events take place at our spiritual home, The Brudenell Social Club, officially best live venue in Leeds 2005/06. The label spluttered to life in 2004 with our first compilation cd of bands that have played for us. Done in true DIY style, cutting and folding all the sleeves ourselves, and commandeering mates computers to burn all the CDRs. It was only available at our gigs and in Jumbo (Leeds' best indie record shop), but we sold all of them (which ain't bad considering we didn't really know what we were doing!) A year later we made another one, this time doing it properly. We had 500 pressed and got them in indie shops nationwide, again, this sold like hot cakes. We have since released two singles, the first a solit 7" for Vatican Jet and The Smokestacks, and the second for The Somatics on CD and 7" More soon .
