"Beneath the glitz and glam of the Las Vegas strip thrives a decaying underworld where streetwalkers sell their bodies for food, kingpins prey on innocent souls and ruffians kill for their turf. The Vegas glory days of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin have long since passed, and have been replaced by a ruder, rawer, epoch of degradation. As the recession radiates, thousands of people have been forced into tents on the cruel desert sands; the Vegas show business crumbles with each new day; and crime is at a record high. This social landscape has left a swath of thirsty entertainers scratching and clawing for every gig, job, or opportunity. Unfortunately, most will fail while trying to drink from the golden cup…. But some, are destined to succeed. This is the case with the multi-talented girl punx, THE DEADLY SEVEN. The band is comprised of seven ex-showgirls who have taken the names of the Seven Deadly sins: Lust, Gluttony, Pride, Greed, Wrath, Sloth and Envy… Not only are these girls a sexy, sassy band that can sing, dance, jive and shock, but are also an immensely group of gifted entertainers who know how to deliver good old school punk. Backed by a 4-piece male rock powerhouse known as “The Kuntz”, a local Vegas rock band, their combined sound recalls The Ramones, The Descendants, and The Adicts, with their delivery matching that of the Sex Pistols. The girls, with their rebellious nature, would probably cringe at the sound of this, but their playful dialogue at times, conjures the likes of Joan Jett, Chrissy Hynde, Karen O, and Bananarama. At any given D7 show, the girls might be escorted into the room by riot police, with marching band in tow, while the girls light off sparklers and black cat firecrackers. The Kuntz begin rocking out, then The D7 take the stage one by one, in matching gear that ranges from military fatigues, lace, shredded wife beaters, or fishnet stockings with underwear. It must be stated that these performers are as zesty as their pictures paint them to be. No retouch needed. While they rock out on stage, sweat, dance, and provoke the audience, an overweight pig man splatters fake strawberry syrup blood on the crowd, a witch may drench you in feathers, and clowns with explosives may startle you with a cheap trick. The girls have been known to throw beer on the crowd, wrestle on stage, all while allowing their adoring fans to come up and share the spotlight. Some call them self-exploitative, inappropriate, or demonic, but I see them as a symbol of female empowerment —simply manifesting that which we all love about women– their beauty, their voice, style, attitude…. The D7 is not just another band. They are special. If they stay focused and keep their pink-punk ethos, they will be the biggest girl band in the world."
