The Couch Addiction, one of the most promising punk and ska band in Montreal, was founded during the fall of 1999, but it’s only one year later that the first complete line-up had been seen playing together for the first time. At that moment, the band decided to put aside previous compositions and started writing new songs. As demand and pressure for recorded material grew unbearable with the passing months, the band decided, in April 2001, to record, mix and master a 100% DYI demo to be only distributed in the “infamous” mp3 file format, on mp3.com. A few months later (July 2001), The Couch Addiction was approached by Dare to Care Records to start working on a split with Montreal’s famous Yesterday’s Ring, an acoustic project originally composed of two members from The Sainte-Catherines. The split CD finally saw light of day in Fall 2001 and made its way with over 1000 copies sold and an appreciable amount of air time on community radios around Canada.
In May 2002, JP (the trombone player) decided to leave the band to pursue his university studies, which led to Seb joining the gang after a short transition period. The shows raged on and the spring of 2003 was witness to the introduction of yet another new member, Nic. These rapid changes were very much in line with what the fans were witnessing: a quickly evolving band.
Over the years, The Couch Addiction tried to get known by playing in a wide variety of places, with many totally different bands. After three years of existence, the band has done many tours in Canada with bands like Big D and the Kids Table, Leftöver Crack (ex-Choking Victim), Chris Murray, Flashlight Brown and The Planet Smashers. At the same time, they also took over Montreal’s scene by playing with various talented local acts such as The Sainte-Catherines, Ripcordz, Subb, The Delegates, Vulgaires Machins, General Rudie, MAP, Fifth Hour Hero, The Gamblers and a whole bunch of excellent bands that I couldn't all name on this page.
TCA's lastest album released in May 2004. After years of preparation, the band finally came out with this album that show the path they are taking with their crazy ska-puny-rocky style of their own. Acclaimed by critics, it present ten original songs that denounce corrupt politics, consumerism and social injustice while promoting respect and solidarity. Lyrics are representative of an active youth that want to move foward to change things. The album was released on Petawawa Records, a label created by the members of Couch Addiction for the release and promotion of Filthy Hands.

The Couch Addiction, le meilleur groupe de ska-punk-rock-funky-disco-retro du Québec, a été fondé pendant l’automne 2000, après la composition de quelques chansons entre amis. Avec la demande croissante de matériel enregistré, le groupe décide de produire lui-même un premier démo de 6 pièces lancé sur mp3.com. Aujourd’hui les Couch ont pris leur place au sein de la scène québécoise et canadienne avec plus de 300 spectacles données depuis 2000 partout à travers le pays.
Quelques après leur premier démo, en juillet 2001, The Couch Addiction a été approché par la compagnie de disque montréalaise Dare to Care Records afin de travailler sur un projet d’album. Cet album “split” a été produit conjoitement avec Yesterday’s Ring, un collectif de folk-punk acoustique composé de membres du groupe The Sainte Catherines (gagnant du prix “bourreaux de tournées” au gala MIMIs 2004). L’album vit le jour en automne 2001 et a fait son chemin avec plus de 1500 copies de vendues et une diffusion considérable sur les radios communautaires et universitaires dans tout le Canada.
Avec quelques changements dans l’alignement du groupe en 2002-2003, le groupe est aujourd’hui complet et prêt à continuer ce qui a été commencé en 2000 : un groupe ouvert d’esprit et créatif aux influences et aux goûts multiples. Composé de six membres incluant deux cuivres et des claviers, leur musique prend racine principalement dans le punk, le ska et le rock en y ajoutant des petites touches de styles dérivés.
Avec les années, TCA s’est fait connaître en jouant dans une grande variété de places avec des groupes totalement différents. Après cinq années bien occupées, les musiciens ont fait des tournées et des spectacles avec des groupes tel Big D and the Kids Table, Leftover Crack, Chris Murray, The Planet Smashers, Mustard Plug, Subb, Chris Murray et Flashlight Brown. Ils occupent également une place importante dans la scène montréalaise après avoir joué avec plusieurs excellents groupes locaux comme The Sainte Catherines, Vulgaires Machins, Capitaine Révolte, Ripcordz, MAP, Fifth Hour Hero, General Rudie, The Gamblers, Issue 16, The Delegates une tonne d'autre légendes locales.
En octobre 2003, le groupe part en tournée canadienne, d'un océan à l'autre. Cela devint le "Disaster Tour" à la suite de tous les malheurs possibles et imaginables qui puissent arriver dans une tournée sauf la mort! Plus motivé que jamais avec un moral solidifié par l'expérience, le groupe repart en tournée pan-canadienne du 13 mai au 12 juin 2004 pour la sortie de leur nouvel album, “Filthy Hands”. Le nouvel album est paru sur Petawawa Records, une compagnie de disque créée par les membres de Couch Addiction spécialement pour la sortie de "Filthy Hands". Deux autres chansons inédites de 2004, dont une première en français, sont disponibles sur les compilations 2 Tongue 5 de Ramon Vitesse et “Montreal Spirit” de Dare to Care. Pour hiver 2005, le groupe enregistre du nouveau matériel en studio. Surveillez-les quand ils passeront dans votre ville pour une performance déchaînée remplie de plaisir, de sueur et de rock!
