Inbetween bouts of underage drinking and run-ins with local law enforcement, the Confidantes began jamming and writing songs together sometime in 2006. Now, by 2008, they’ve played countless gigs and supported such luminaries as The Maccabees, Air Traffic, The Metros and The Law. They’re the kind of band that will make heads turn so fast, there’s a distinct possibility that you just might hear a few necks snapping.

They are a group of four teenage musicians, with skinsman Greg Mutch matching vicious madness with machine-precision drumming, resulting in the drum kit being beaten into the ground amid the numerous drumstick splinters. Meanwhile, bassist Thomas Emslie, slides and glides his lithe basslines, effortlessly dancing through the drum apocalypse, as guitarist Sam Cullen remains deep in concentration, extracting just the right kind of melodic shards of noise from his six-string at a ridiculous speed. Finally, singer Luke Wyles, the band’s very own scruffy street urchin and a master of the art of dignified dishevelment, spits and snarls his lyrics with an elegant eloquence, from atop the aural blitzkrieg.
