Heralded by Classic Rock magazine as "The Coolest Band In The World," The Compulsions have been riding a wave of increasing success and visibility. The New York band has amassed a mountain of critical acclaim the likes of which most bands would, to quote a Compulsions lyric, "shake hands with the Devil" to receive. Their recorded work has seen incredible success in the world of college radio, often out charting artists like Beck, Metallica and Oasis. The Compulsions have had their Demon Love EP licensed by MTV for popular programs The City and Parental Control with wildly successful shows at The Blender Theater, John Varvatos (formerly CBGB) and The Mercury Lounge rallying their already rabid fanbase to fevered pitch. Airplay from WRXP FM's Matt Pinfield (formerly MTV) and Q104.3 FM's Jonathan Clarke in New York City has also gone far in championing the band's music.
Led by frontman Rob Carlyle on vocals and rhythm guitar, The Compulsions have until recently been a rotating line up of heavyweight rock 'n' roll talent, including members of The Patti Smith Group and Howlin' Wolf/Muddy Waters band. At present, Carlyle has found a steady onstage groove with Guns N' Roses players Frank "Thunderchucker" Ferrer on drums and Richard Fortus on lead guitar, who've both appeared on many Compulsions recordings, as well as New York Dolls/ex-Hanoi Rocks bassist Sami Yaffa.
A full length Compulsions release titled Beat The Devil is now in the works featuring a core line up of Carlyle, Ferrer, Fortus and Yaffa along with many of Rob's favorite local musicians; including very special guest Hubert Sumlin - legendary lead guitar player for aforementioned blues icons Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters.
As schedules permit, expect to hear more from this buzz generating collective.
