. . .lies one of the most unique indie bands to come out of Texas in years; The Color of May. The Denton quartet is built by twin brothers John and Matt Spivey (who have played in various bands since 1997) along with seasoned musicians Ryan Hanifin and Hailey Wynn. Together, The Color of May has been building a name for themselves, sharing the stage with acts like The Burden Brothers, Flickerstick, Automatic Loveletter and A Cursive Memory.

With their latest release entitled, "Recovery" (2009), TCOM continues to produce the most unforgettable, intensely lyrical, melodically driven indie-rock in Texas. In a total of 8 recording days "Recovery" was complete with the help of Grammy-nominated producer, Alex Gerst, who engineered the album at Indian Trails Studios. Here Gerst helped craft the sounds of such bands as Ivoryline, The Feds and The Vehicle Reason.

Why isn't Texas based The Color of May bigger than they are?

Their lovely 2006 EP "Money can buy anything" should've had them signed to a respected record label, if there was any doubt about their skills in songwriting - those doubts should definitely be gone with the new 5 track EP "Recovery".

Perhaps they're making too clever music that label people don't understand?

Nah, I don't think so - these are melodic songs but no bubblegum or hey hey woah woah choruses which is an easy way to flirt with the audience.

Singer John Spivey deliver thoughtful melodies and he sets the level high straight away with the opener "My hometown", a great guitar driven rock song that should do just fine as a show opener.

All tracks are really good but "Drive" stand out with traces of The Police in the verse, another fine song is the title track "Recovery" that bring thoughts to Jimmy Eat World.

The songs on this EP leans more towards emo pop compared to the "Money can buy anything" EP, they save the best for last with the beautiful "Heart attack" which is a well arranged and rhythmic song featuring superb bass playing from Hailey Wynn.

Once and for all, this is rightfully their ticket out in the big world!

"The Color of May would be a sound somewhere between the emo-pop of Jimmyeatworld and the more complex intricacies of art-pop-punk band Saves the Day. nicely meshes its own guitar-pop style on their great new EP, a five-songer called 'Money Can Buy Anything'."

- Malcolm Mayhew, Star-Telegram

"The music industry is warped enough to make a body want to puke. Of all the music on all those ultra-hip indie-rock satellite radio stations, little of it is better than what comes from the mouths and guitar playing hands of The Color of May, the Cleburne quartet that produces the finest, most melodic, must fun indie-rock in Texas."
