From THE ONION:A refugee camp for garage rockers, L.A.’s The Clean Prophets is a second chance for talented members of Sunstorm, The Superbees, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to make good on the promise of those (mostly) defunct groups. As an original act, they more or less deliver, making laconic, shambling psych-pop grounded in both Lou Reed’s effortless cool and pristine British schoolboy rock, mixed with the edgy emotiveness of 80’s gloom bands like Echo And The Bunnymen. It’s an interesting stew of influences-one that makes sense in these all-inclusive times where one man’s mod is another man’s new wave is another man’s space-rock—that reveals the short historical line between the Doors and Interpol. –THE ONION- February ‘07

from LOSTATSEA.NET: Like Scandinavian counterparts Mando Diao, The Clean Prophets are more than just throwbacks with a love of Ray Davies and his ilk. They've got chops, they know their hooks, and more importantly they know themselves. As with other revivalists, Clean Prophets are unabashed about their influences, and when they're the cream of the crop, why not? Whether the trio will have the mass appeal of a Strokes or Franz Ferdinand, only time will tell. But I will praise their debut, poison be damned, and many will find it a welcome addition to their 21st century retro rock collections.

from LOSING TODAY: a garaged-up concoction of lessons learned from listening to indie-icons The La's, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Echo and The Bunnymen
