"The Charming Third's Will Simpson was born and raised in the bluegrass state of Kentucky, and his sound certainly does a good job of proving that. His stark acoustic guitar and rustic voice blend for an authentic-feeling sound, and an extremely personal live show. Drawing inspiration from artists ranging from golden oldies, such as Bob Dylan, to more noisy contemporaries like Bright Eyes and Nickelcreek, Simpson does a masterful job of mixing the old and new to his own special folk sound.

    When the lights go down, and the guitar comes out you can be sure you're in for a treat as Simpson strums his way through crooning soft ballads(Let's Kill Christian Music) to pumping dance-alongs(The Drive Home) that will make you feel like locking arms with a partner for a few two-steps. "Will Simpson writes gentle, heartfelt acoustic folk as The Charming Third. The Kentucky-based singer's influences include Johnny Cash and Nickel Creek.



Simpson calls his music Christian, though it's not an obvious description or overt theme in the songs. The Charming Third's latest EP, On Down the Line, even includes a track called "Let's Kill Christian Music." Though the song has a confrontational title, Simpson says he's merely frustrated with the misuse of Christianity for personal gain.



The EP contains a total of five tracks that range from intimate ballads to more lively pop tunes. Simpson's raw vocals and homey lyrics work well with the album's home-made sound." - NPR.org 11/28/07
