The Broken Poetz
In the summer of 1997 in McAllen Texas some old friends saw each other for the first time in a number of years. John Alcocer and Jason Salas were schoolmates in East Chicago Indiana, a Midwestern town mostly known for its steel mills and gang activity. It was in a pawnshop of all places were they met up again. John mentioned that he and his younger brother Comic had been dabbling in making their own music. David also known as Comic was well on his way to becoming one of South Texas most established lyricists and producer, though still very early in the stages of his progress glimpses of what was yet to come was evident.
A keyboard was the only piece of equipment at their disposal. Comic would arrange the music in his head and then transfer the idea as best he could into the machine. The results were often mind blowing. One advantage they always seem to have had over other bands were there knowledge of music and its history. By actually incorporating the showmanship and stage antics of they're favorite performers "Kiss, T-Rex, The Who, all very well respected musicians that seemed to have a flair on stage. There really wasn't anything else that they wanted to do. The decision was made to become (The Brokenpoetz) the seed had been planted right then and there. The idea of David Aka the Comic playing guitar was a pretty obsurd at that time but something came about while picking up a guitar for the first time . It just started to happen really quick music started flowing out of the old acoustic guitar like it was meant to be all along . David began writing music composing playing guitar, bass and incorporated his unique stlyle of flow into the mix . With a combination of John and Jays flows (The Brokenpoetz) original style of music was born .The subjects they were talking about were anywhere from Political views , Drug Use, Addiction and Everyday life . The Brokenpoetz have always been a band that has takes pride in setting the bar very high making it a point to never sound like anything going on always believing that they could lay there own path to success and create there own style of music
The Broken Poetz consists of David Alcocer, Jason Salas, and John Alcocer. For the last ten years the Poetz have won numerous battle of the bands contests have had several magazine interviews and number of brushes with fame. But with the highs there's also lows. Several attempts at keeping a steady band going have at times been tough. But the core members have somehow made it through. Like the phoenix The Broken Poetz have risen once again to claim Hip Hop Royalty. With three strong new members they have hit the music scene once again harder than ever. Jarred Gomez and Isreal Gomez two stand outs on bass and percussion in the order as previously mentioned. With the addition of Frankie Rez on the lead guitar the band is stronger than ever . Be on the lookout for the Brokenpoetz in 2008 there ready and willing to deliver the goods.
