The Broadview Gutters are an aggressive reggae band from Cleveland, OH that blends styles of Dub, Dancehall, Rocksteady, Ska, Punk, and High-Octane Rock N' Roll. Their unique sonic blend and a must-see energetic live show has seated them countless shows in the past 4+ years and a common drive to tour the world. With a debut album titled "Soundboy Suffer" released in April of 2004 they are currently working on a DVD and a follow up release.
Here it is from the beginning.
1998 was the year. Dupper's basement was dark and stankin' and the raw punk rock racket that seeped from the depths ran rampant. The lineup consisted of J on vocals, Yoho on bass, Jimmy on drums, and Dupper on guitar. The band was dubbed P.Y.S.T. After a few months of solid songwriting and rehearsals the band fell apart after Dupper decided to leave the band for something that bleeds once a month. Jimmy then decided to switch to full time turntable devastation.
Spring forward a year or so later to late 1999. Yoho and J have decided to stick with the band idea and recruit a new drummer. J has since switched to guitar and lead vocals after honing in on the ability to work duties in tandem. They find a drummer dubbed "Wayner" and a practice space in downtown Cleveland where they earn their current name and begin to write and rehearse as a full band once again. This was a shortlived period for the band. Wayner was fired for being shady and Yoho and J were once again on their own.
Some 15 drummer tryouts later Jimmy decided it was time to return to business and the Gutters full on lineup began to solidify. Six months passed by as the Gutters rehearsed mercifully 4-7 times a week in order to suit up for a successfull debut show with fellow Cleveland scene allies 2nd Half. Shortly after Shawn Casper the Saxmaster signed on and filled out the complete current lineup which has been rockin' strong ever since.
The Broadview Gutters have played over 150 shows and opened up for national acts such as Fishbone, the Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Leftover Crack, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, CKY, Atreyu, Catch 22, and the Slackers. Building a strong Cleveland fanbase along the way and an alliance with 100s of bands the Gutters will stop at nothing to affect the world with their sound. With plans to move the entire band out west later this year, who knows what will happen next!
April 9th marked the debut release of "Soundboy Suffer" at the Phantasy in Lakewood, OH also marking the Gutters first sold-out headlining show. Plans of an early 2005 DVD release and current songwriting for a followup album are in the current B.V.G. agenda. Look out!
