Ska music is not a genre easily defined. To the uninitiated, the word provokes an image of a punk band with a horn section. Well The Brentford Sound hopes to initiate you.

Taking their cues not from the punk-ska bands with which you might be familiar, The Brentford Sound instead draws their inspiration from the original rhythms of 1960's Jamaica. On top of driving, move-your-ass dance beats built on heavy basslines and offbeat drumming, The Brentford Sound lays stick-in-your-head horn parts and nfectious, soulful vocal melodies that recall all the best elements of that first wave of Jamaican ska.

But again, this Sound remains hard to define. For The Brentford Sound, that Sixties island sound is merely the starting line. As a whole, this band fleshes out it's Sound with the interests of its individual members. In this Sound, you might catch elements of early rock 'n roll, or 60's Motown soul. Of course there is jazz, New Orleans or otherwise. Maybe there's a touch of rhythm and blues in there. There's even some latin flavor; salsa, boogaloo, what-have-you. And yes, you might even catch a country lick or two.

But the rhythm is the thing. The Brentford Sound takes those roots rhythms and tacks them to that Caribbean beat and builds a sound all their own. Catch on now, it's a brand new wave.
