Persistence. The key to success in any field, especially the music industry. The Alpha Project (Orlando, FL) was born out of persistence, and quite frankly, a little bit of luck.

First, the luck. As Kellen Jordan was establishing himself as a producer, he decided to go by the name Beatnik. He came across a problem though when he started to register his name on various music websites. The name was already taken by Nick Sarasty, an up and coming producer in his own right. Kellen immediately fell in love with Nick’s production style and foresaw the potential the two possessed might they team up.

Now, the persistence. Kellen, for about a year and a half, consistently emailed Nick asking to collaborate on some tracks. For a year and a half, Nick disregarded these emails. Finally, Nick agreed to work on a remix to Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscuous” in the summer of 2006. Ever since, the two have been exchanging tracks and collaborating on remixes and beats across the internet. They have developed a style that is so well intertwined that it’s hard to believe they have never even met face to face. With Kellen residing in Indiana, and Nick in Florida, they have developed a strong musical bond that can be seen in their work.

With Kellen taking responsibilites on drums and Nick on keyboards, they have been able to hone their respective talents and focus on what they do best. Nick states, “Kellen’s approach to drums and programming is so meticulous and detail oriented…he brings such patient subtleties to his rhythms and syncopation.” Nick goes on to add, “When I first get a track from Kellen by email, I often think, ‘This really isn’t him, this couldn’t come from a guy with no musical training whatsoever.”

As far as Nick is concerned, Kellen says, “The moment I heard his music I was hooked. His signature style, and his ability to create infectious melodies and compositions in short periods of time immediately grabbed me. I could tell he was highly talented. Kellen continues, “When I would send him my work and get it back with his additions I would often get chills….something not a whole lot of musicians have been able to give me.”

As The Alpha Project continues to grow, they hope to be able to work with artists that transcend any distinct genre. While they strive to make music that they themselves enjoy, they also hope to bring something new to the ears of the people. Drawing from influences such as Timbaland, The Dust Brothers (Producers of Beck and The Beastie Boys Albums), The Neptunes, and even 80’s pop, The Alpha Project aims to take music they love from the past and build upon these cornerstones for the future.
