The News
WARRNAMBOOL's second favourite band The 80 Aces finished 2010 with a bang, supporting You Am I and Dan Kelly and trekking to Sydney to play in the Australasian final of the Global Battle Of The Bands, where they placed fifth. Now they're kicking off 2011 with another bang: by releasing their debut EP, which has already received airplay on Triple J, Coast FM and ABC Radio. The 80 Aces have launched the EP on their home turf and are now preparing to unleash it on the rest of Australia.
The Buzz
"The 80 Aces impressed with a rock-solid set of polished tunes with likable new-wave references." - Nui Te Koha, Herald-Sun
"No band can be all things to all people, but The 80 Aces come close." – Chris Rodda, The Standard
"The 80 Aces are a band that continually impresses live… (they are) the bench mark for all local bands when it comes to work ethic, performance and originality." – Brady Jones, ABC Open
"The debut release from The 80 Aces… brings forth the best of the band's groovy pub rock tunes… with some seriously funk-driven bass lines, eclectic vocals and overall tone reminiscent of Blur or Custard. I wouldn't be surprised to see these guys hitting the charts before too long." – Steev Cowled, Forte
"The first track I'm going to play is Guitarzan, which is one of the greatest names for a track I have heard in a long time, and it's by a band called The 80 Aces." – Alan Brough, ABC
"I think they've got a stack of talent. As a commercial FM station we have to play what broadly appeals to all of our audience. It's got to stand up and be brilliantly produced and a really good song to get on the air. I Am Trying To Read Your Mind is all that." – John Vertigan, Coast FM (ACE Radio)
"Highlight I Am Trying To Read Your Mind, with its loud-soft dynamic, sounds like it could have been cut directly from early Foo Fighters. The 80 Aces will not be winning any Grammys, but I get the feeling that is fine by them." – Darragh Murray, Rave Magazine
