Ten Yard Fight was formed in 1994/1995 with the intention of reviving eighties-style posi-core. During that time, there were not many straight edge bands and true hardcore was in a sad state. Boston was plagued with bad metal and Allston rock bands. Strife and Earth Crisis were leading the straight edge movement, but their sound was a long shot from the old Boston, New York, and DC hardcore bands that TYF members listened to and went to see growing up. TYF was an attempt to bring back pos-tops and high tops, a way to have fun but at the same time to play the kind of music that members of the band found truly inspiring.

Ten Yard Fight released their demo in 1995, then went on to release the "Hardcore Pride" 7" on Big Wheel Recreation in 1996, and also released a split 7" with Fastbreak. In 1997, TYF released their first full length record entitled "Back on Track" which was also their Equal Vision Records debut. In 1999, TYF released their last record entitled "The Only Way." In between these releases TYF appeared on many different complilation recordings. At the end of 1999, TYF played their last show with friends Bane, Reach The Sky, and In My Eyes. This show was at the Karma Club on Lansdowne Street as the Yankees and Red Sox were playing right across the street in the ALCS at Fenway Park.

During the 4+ years that TYF was around, the band played all over the world, including several US tours, a European tour, many shows in Canada, and even a weekend of 2 shows in Puerto Rico where Steve Reddy caused permanent spinal damage to John.
