Stage Name: T dot FlirtZ

Ethan Mark Johnston (Stage name TdotFlirtZ, often shortened to FlirtZ), born August 29th 1991 in south east London town Lewisham. Since the age of 10 Ethan was writing his own music inspired by UK group so solid crew and would fill entire notebooks up with lyrics. Progressing from primary school into secondary writing music maintained itself as another major hobby in Ethan’s life; although he never recorded the songs he would write. Whilst in the later years of secondary school Ethan’s song writing dipped into various genres ranging from Grime to R&B, but it was a R&B song that earned him the music name he is now known by, ‘Flirtz’ being a nickname Ethan had since early years at secondary school and the ‘T’ standing for talented came together and was said in the intro of one of his very first recorded songs and since then the name has stuck. Since then R&B/Pop songs became the only genre of music Ethan would write in and after moving to a bigger home he set out in saving money in order to buy his own studio where he could record more of his songs.

After researching techniques in recording and mixing and acquiring the needed equipment for a home studio FlirtZ began recording his songs.

Setting up a myspace and youtube page FlirtZ would upload his music and let others listen to his songs, also sending his music out on instant messaging programmes to all his contacts and getting feedback all helped in building FlirtZ’s fan base. He put together his first mixtape ‘ReflectionZ’, in 2007 and was released for free digitally on his myspace page which received over 70,000 downloads but it was his second independently put together mixtape ‘The love note’ released Again for free on his myspace in early 2008 which gained him his most recognition, with songs such as ‘Lost love note’ racking up just under 1 million plays on youtube and myspace and ‘I wanted you’ which gained 1.2 Million plays on myspace and youtube, also catching the attention of UK artist DJ Ironik who then contacted FlirtZ and asked to make a collaborative remix to the song.

However it wasn’t until about October 2008 where FlirtZ met a young producer named Dazeler from his college, which is when he began to record music in a professional studio. FlirtZ and Dazeler planned to make a song with Dazeler as the producer and FlirtZ as the vocalist, the beat was made on a college music department computer in one afternoon and the song had been written by the following day, showing the song to recording studio SOUL in Croydon the managers of the studio agreed to let FlirtZ record the song there.
