the bio of Tash Mahogany (Tazh Me hog e ne)
Born in New York City as Tash Mahogany Austin this Jersey Girl is here to splash our ears and minds with her creative presence. Mahogany has beauty and the brains to match. She is a writer with the ability to change her sounds to fit into any genre. She accredits her versatility as well as her warm, kind, demeanor to being raised partly in Jersey and partly in Greensboro NC (during every summer). She is a writer, a soulful vocalist, and you may catch her rapping a few hot bars at times.
Tash says her creative outlet up to the age of nine was poetry as she began entering and winning national competitions. She started turning her verses into lyrics to sing and rap, studying influences like Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Anita Baker, and Etta James. After being introduced to producer KayGee (Naughty by Nature), Tash was able to polish her songwriting skills by testing them on KayGee as he developed R&B artists Jaheim and Coffee Brown.
Tash, determined to strengthen her stage presence, decided to perform at live events. She was performing at a local open mic in New Jersey when she was noticed by Beretta 9 of Wu Tang "Killarmy". Beretta heard her singing and asked if she would contribute to a project he was working on at the time. Soon after "the Rza" called on her vocals & lyrics as an addition to his 03 "Birth of a Prince" album. Her involvement in that project led to two national tours with the Rza & Wu Tang, a performance at Quentin Tarrantinos Premiere party for the film, "Kill Bill", an appearance on the Apollo, and the Carson Daily Show.
Mahogany has been making appearances in magazines and editorials for top name brand designers as well as photographers. She became the first model for Kimora Lee Simmons' website BabyPhat.com. Her unique look sparked requests for cameos in the music videos of other fellow artists and MTV2 featured her on the documentary "Video Honeys". Tash then took her performance to a higher level by studying theater. She emerged with appearances on "Law and Order SVU", the "Chappelle Show", and worked on films such as "Spiderman II", "We Own the Night", and Spike Lees "25th hour". Today you can find Tash on tracks with Killarmy, the Rza, Juelz Santana, Fabolous, Ghostface Killah, John Robinson, and Jugaknot. You might have also seen Tash on the road during Jay-Z and Mary J Blige's "Heart of The City Tour", representing Diddys newly endorsed Brand of Vodka, Ciroc. She can also be heard on the new Wu Tang Clan album "8 Diagrams" and is working on an album featuring herself playing Accoustic guitar.
