“His music sounds real universal, it sounds very everywhere and intricate - it sounds dope.” A quote from Grammy nominated producer, Alchemist, which accurately describes, 21 year-old producer, Justin Davis’ AKA Synthphony's music. His music, characterized by complex synth arrangements, hard hitting drums and 808s, captivates and energizes listeners, creating an intoxicating sound that stimulates the mind. Synthphony, an upcoming producer in the New York hip-hop scene is versatile and unique, demonstrated through his ability to blend elements of the pop, electronic, and rock genres into catchy and sophisticated hip-hop and R&B tracks. Synthphony’s meticulous attention to the arrangement of each track he produces communicates his passion for music, demonstrates his music’s universal appeal, and reveals the love he possesses for his craft.

On top of making new tracks daily, Synthphony is currently pursuing a Masters Degree from New York University’s highly acclaimed Music Technology program. Synthphony, in addition to his solo musical pursuits, is also a member of the production duo, M-Tech Music. When Synthphony is not in the studio or studying, he is out networking and actively promoting his (and M-Tech’s) music. After obtaining both publishing and consulting deals with Missing Link Music (1 independent music publishing company in the country) and Hush Hush Music Group, respectively, Synthphony has been focusing on establishing and expanding his production catalog.

Synthphony started playing music when he was 8 years old. His musical background is rooted in his knowledge of and ability to play both the Tenor and Alto saxophone. It was when Synthphony was 13 years old that he started to explore the world of digital music production. At such a young age he taught himself how to use Reason, Fruity Loops Studio, and Pro-Tools. When he was 16 years old, the driven Synthphony left his hometown of Berkeley, California to attend college in New Orleans. At that time, Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, causing him to move between New Orleans, Houston, Texas and Baltimore, Maryland. His history of living in the aforementioned places and the struggles inflicted upon him, due to the trauma of Katrina and the transience imposed upon him, exposed him to a variety of different music and production styles, which heavily impact his current sound, along with his creative process.

Synthphony has already created a heavy buzz around himself. While still in high school, the ambitious Synthphony produced tracks for a variety of Hyphy music legends (namely Yukmouth and Messy Marv) and other artists, for inclusion in assorted albums and mix-tapes. Synthphony, along with M-Tech Music, was a top finalist in the May 2009 I-Standard New York City Producer’s Showcase. Synthphony (as part of M-Tech), was also a top finalist in the highly competitive Loud.com Remix Competition for Lil’ Jon and Swizz Beatz’s song, “I Do.”

After surviving Katrina and multiple moves throughout the country, Synthphony’s philosophy of “perseverance paying off,” has been proven to hold true. Through his struggles and hardships, Synthphony has shown that that nothing will deter him from pursuing his career in music. As a versatile producer, who is committed to his vision and dedicated to his craft, Synthphony is surely an up and coming producer to watch.
