This Is My Philosophy (Live Music Video)

Hey Guys, how are all of you doing?

This is our first i think we've ever done and being new the myspace and all is why we have to be apart of it.

Firstly, who are we? we've been together since the late, 2004, and its been a long time since actually sat down and thought about what we are doing and why we are doing it.

We're gonna tell you a little story about what we're all about and stuff so this is how it goes.

Catastrophe Of Love (Live At RQ Heats) - Thanks Rachel For This Video!

Simon, Alex and Damien have all been friends for their life times and decided in 2004 that we wanted to start a band. At the beginning of 2005, the classes for St Peter's College for chosen and completely out the blue, Alex and James were both in the same class. Simon, Alex and Damien and their old guitarist had being playing for quite some months now but were still not sure this is what they wanted to do. Alex and James were thinking about it and decided that they wanted him in the band for unknown reasons. At this time a few weeks later, James was the lead singer of the band called "Restricted" which consisted of Alex on Guitar, Damien on Bass, Simon on Drums, and James on Piano and Vocals.

This band for many reasons kept growing as they wrote, and kept writing as they grew, for everything they did impacted on something else. They wrote their first song "I wanna be with you" (look out for it at a show maybe one day they will play this horrible track), which wasn't that bad considering it was the first song they made. Growing on this song, they began to practice at school, and created a new song called "Not Meant To Be". Which lyrics are:

"Just Listen to me, and I will tell you that you're not the one for me,

Just listen to me, and I will tell you that this is not meant to be"

Just so you cats know, that we aren't ripping off anyone. Anyway, half way through 2005, James thought it'd be okay to experiment on a side project called "Silence After Summer", which turned out to be more than what he thought'd be. Meanwhile Damien, Alex and Simon Kept writing because they knew even someone leaving the band could stop them- they'd come too far to give up. "Colourful" was written soon after this, and didn't sound like the one you know today- Daniel O'conner, a friend of theirs changed a few things and took it down from about 4 minutes to 2 (Which is crazy but it actually sounds great).

Coming into 2006, James was removed from Alex's class and it was rough times between everyone, but absence made the band stronger in a year to come. Meanwhile new-named band "Slant Six" entered the Smokefree Rockquest, and there their stage performances grew. The same band this was, but consisted of Simon on Drums, Alex On Guitar and Vocals and Damien On bass. It was only a matter of time till James found that he'd no longer want to be in the band S.A.S so he rejoined Slant Six, and was placed at Piano, Guitar and Vocals, playing at a Christmas show in Epsom.

The band thought and thought (Don't actually why they wanted to change the name but I'll keep you posted on that) and finally re-named and re-organised the band to a better, tighter and louder band. Suburban Envy became who they wanted to be and this was what it meant to them and for years to come. They still hadn't played an Official show yet, and the opportunity was just around the corner. Meeting "The Randoms" was a big honour especially since they were playing a whole lot more shows than us too. They set up a show (Our first Official show) in High Street, Ellen Melville Women's Pioneer hall. High street, on a saturday was just no way it wouldn't packed with Scene kids and Alcoholics was a great idea (Shit there were so many hot girls there that night =D). The new and Improved "Suburban Envy" layed it down and played well.

Their second show was already their!! Playing at an even bigger show, Shine was the best thing for Suburban Envy, for it was with a whole lot of other young bands too. Only 15 and 16, they yet again played to their full extent in a packed show at Auckland Grammer Auditorium (Cheers Craig, Sally). Suburban Envy was ready to take on the world at this point. They knew they weren't tight to best but all that mattered was them trying their hardest and what the audience conveyed.

Soon came their third show played up in Whangaparoa, which was a big deal for the members of Suburban Envy because they were playing a show out of their premises of Auckland. Playing along stage with local bands "Twink", "Missing Link", "Sonic Altar", & "Candy Coated Lies", Suburban Envy rocked out just like playing at a school social (as this is what James & Damien thought they were at at the time). After playing such a good show, the boys decided a few things and goals to achieve. 1: To Release an independent Ep By the name of the "Good Enough Ep" by August-September 2: To then release their Debut Album "This Is My Philosophy" by Next year. As their writing continues, their tightness and Aggression for solid, massive single-material music compelled. Their next attempt for success is in the Smoke free Rockquest 2007 and they won't let themselves or the audience down.

The next attempt was the Smokefree Rockquest 2007, where they successfully won the Auckland central heats with a song called “Catastrophy of Love”. Upon winning the heats band practice became second to breathing and the regional finals were soon upon them. The show wasn’t as great as the boys and the judges hoped and their Rockquest attempt for 2007 came to a sudden end. Not letting the night phase them too much, they played up at Whangaparoa the night after for their friends "Twink" Ep Release show. This show was a greatly relaxing show and went exactly to plan, despite James putting his foot through the stage and some minor lead failure.

After the great ordeal of Rockquest things slowed down only briefly, because almost straight after Alt TV contacted them and they were back in business. Playing two songs and doing a live interview soon lead to Suburban Envy head lining the “Welcome To The Gun Show” live gig featuring “Three Kings”, “Pachinko” and “Laidrive”. This show turned out to be a great success and included some film footage with Oliver Driver.

Holding On to these dreams, and these goals, Suburban Envy wishes to bring the best out of themselves to let their fans have something to listen to when they're down, happy, or confused. And we'd love to meet all of you one day soon and hear what you have to say about us. We love all our fans and we love the feedback we get from musicians because we know we can't be the best, but we can do our best. And no matter what you say, you can never bring us down from acheiving our goal.

Cheers guys, we <3 you.
