Positive yet honest, Submerged is a pop/rock band with an alternative edge. Starting out in 2006, the band has since recorded an album and played at a wide variety of venues; and throughout the experience, their goal has always been to dedicate themselves to God and set a good example for others.
After playing many memorable shows and gaining invaluable experience, the band recorded their debut album in 2008, titled "Don't Hide." They were not going to settle for a couple "radio worthy" hits and lackluster album tracks - instead, they aimed to produce a uniformly strong album that would convey faith, love and emotion throughout. They decided to record the album at Skies Fall Studios, where Ben Kasica of Skillet co-wrote and produced the album, and Acceptance's Nick Radovanovic engineered and mixed it. The result was a product they were immensely satisfied with: it offered a wide spectrum of songs, from the guitar-heavy "Don't Hide" to the wistful ballad "The Beating of a Heart."
"Working with Ben and Nick Rad at Skies Fall was really a great learning process. It was exactly what we needed, and I'm so proud of how the album turned out," says Caitlin Shea, singer/songwriter/guitarist for the band. "Each song on the album is a story about what I've gone through or what I've witnessed in my friends' lives. And while recording, all those stories and emotions came together perfectly."
At the core of the album are various issues found in life, as well as their solutions. Take for instance, "A Love Like No Other." The song discusses the pain and heartache of watching a relationship collapse, while taking a look at the unconditional love God provides. "Take Back" and "Who I Used To Be" evoke the feelings of being beat down and held to a past that you've changed and grown from; no doubt, the subject hits home with all generations. "Essential" and "Silence" express the neverending need for the Lord in both good and bad times of our lives.
"It means so much when someone comes up to me, or writes to us, saying how our music has touched them in some way, and how they relate to the songs and how it's helped them through a hard time. Not much tops that feeling," Caitlin states. "My desire is to touch lives. I know for myself, meeting the musicians in my favorite bands has been an amazing experience, and that they've touched my life in some way. whether they realize it or not. I want to share that feeling."
The band is gearing up for their sophomore album, which they hope will be even stronger than their freshman effort. Currently in the process of writing all new material, they're hoping to deliver an album that retains the optimistic outlook of "Don't Hide" while showcasing an increasing maturity and passion for God. But in the mean time, they keep busy booking and touring throughout the year.
With three years under their belt, Submerged is still going strong, and they're looking forward to the long journey still ahead of them.
